Dear Scholars,

Am looking for the source reference for the story of Haritālikā. There are many Vrata Kathā booklets explaining the story, but was not able to locate the story in any puraṇic source.

Can someone point me to the source text and verse(s) where this story occurs?

Like many Hindu festivals, references to it are not found in any major extant Purāṇa. Nevertheless, it is to be celebrated according to the procedures prescribed in digests such as the Nirṇaya-Sindhu, Varṣa-Kṛtya, and Kṛtya-Sāra-Samuccaya. For example, the Varṣa-Kṛtya attributes the relevant narrative to the Bhaviṣyottara-Purāṇa.
