Humble PraNAmAs To The Leaned 🙏

Can someone throw light if there is any scriptural basis behind the people of Kanva Shakas being kept away by certain BrahmaNas as cursed and not allow them in saha pankti or marriage alliance.

Thanks and Regards...

Can you please share the source,  oral or written , even if it is an informal conversation from where you heard this story of curse ?

Things seems to have crept into tradition at some point so inexplicably.

Here among the Telugu speaking Brahmins, there is an expression " Prathama S'aakha Niyogi" , Niyogi being the word used in reference to the Brahmin sect families who took to royal or administrative responsibilities like 'Karanam' (Village Account keeper) Minister (Preggada/Amaatya etc., )

I know many Kaanva Shukla Yajurvedi Brahmin families living a Vaidiki way of life, not into any such royal or administrative responsibilities.

I am yet to know why, when and how the word Niyogi got tagged to the word Prathama S'aakha.

Today, this intrasect endogamy among Brahmins is gradually fading out. Brahmins are marrying across sects. Vaidikis are marrying Niyogis and vice versa. The sects based on the ancient origin kingdom , names of the sects ending in --Nadu like Velanadu, Veginadu, Mulakanadu etc., used to be endogamous sects . But now, all those restrictions are fading out justifiably.

When the old intrasect endogamy used to be there, there were like in all cultures all over the world , some intersect attitudes expressed through intersect stereotypes etc.,

There always are some nasty perpetrators of bigotry who may live in their own cocoon of those old time bad attitudes , stereotypes etc.,

These stories of curses etc., could be part of such obsolete unhealthy attitudes.

Namaste,

Thanks for responding..

Have heard it from certain orthodox Vaishnava(Madhva) BrahmaNas. One Prathama Shakhi himself narrated his experience.

A quick Google search returned following links.

Seems it's a practise across states and communities..

Non alliance in marriage because of ideological differences is one thing and having some scriptural source behind the alleged 'curse' is another thing. Just was keen to find it out.

Thanks and Regards..
