Many thanks for explaining details of my astrological question. Do you have any opinion on Sun Rashi 12 blocks as described by Western astrologers. There is 23 and half degree difference between Nirayan and Saayan astrology. Sometimes Indian astrology (Nirayan) tells us Sun Rashi as Cancer but according to Saayan calculations it comes out different. Under this situation which Rashi correctly describes psychology ( like Cancer is not as strong as Leo) of the person. Please pardon me for asking you more questions. Thanks. N.R.Joshi.

ज्योतिषम् -- सिद्धान्त - जातकस्कन्धौ

सायन  -  निरयण -- राशिप्रमाणानि - फलितानि -- मानसिकी स्थितिः

Feel free to ask questions - the only problem is time management .

All of us are grateful to the Founders of this group for creating a platform to discuss so many विद्यास्थानम् s ,i.e. different शास्त्राणि , दर्शनानि etc.

This शास्त्रम् चक्षुसम्मितम् वेदपुरुषस्य is highly complicated .

वराहमिहिराचार्य (4 or 5 century BC ?)  at the outset declares that the वैयाकरणाः , नैयायिकाः , मीमांसकाः etc have miserably failed in crossing the great ocean of होरातन्त्रम् and I start building a boat for them --

भूयोभिः पटुभिः पटुधियां होराफलज्ञप्तये

शब्दन्यायसमन्वितेषु बहुशः शास्त्रेषु दृष्टेष्वपि ।

होरातन्त्रमहार्णवप्रतरणे भग्नोद्यमानामहम्

स्वल्पं वृत्तविचित्रमर्थबहुळं शास्त्रप्लवं प्रारभे ॥

Coming to your question --

I did not study Western Astrology  nor compare सायन and निरयण , although both are touched in the  yearly पञ्चाङ्गम् (Almenac / Calender) - especially the 

भारतस्य  मेषादिनिरयणराशिप्रमाणानि vis a vis निरक्षदेशीयसायन- राशिप्रमाणानि

May not be out of context - my मातामह , श्री सिंहंभट्ल सूर्यनारायणसिद्धान्ती and मातुल श्री सुदर्शनशास्त्री , both were astrologers , the former a काशीपण्डित and पञ्चाङ्गकर्ता । both noted down their  exact time of death etc. I did not know either .

Almost all Siddhantis , including my मातामह , here follow निरयण , although they offer संवत्सरफलम् etc. in terms of सायन । So do I .

Both the तृतीयम् (स्वभावस्थनम्) and पञ्चमम् (बुद्धिस्थानम्) , some times even राज्यम् (दशमस्थनम्) -- all from लग्नम् -- are important . The लग्नाधिपति also plays his role in this regard -- psychology of the  native ( the person in question) . Three / four kinds of relations of planets have to be kept in mind - दृष्टिः , सहावस्थनम् , परिवर्तनम् (swap) .

Back to basics --

before one ventures upon the task of offering predictions he should study the षड्वर्गबलानि ।

Here is वराहमिहिराचार्य of बृहज्जातकम् (३) --

दृक्काणहोरानवभागसंज्ञा-

स्त्रिंशांशकद्वाद्शसंज्ञिताश्च।

क्षेत्रं च यद्यस्य स तस्य वर्गो 

होरेति लग्नं भवनस्य चार्धम् ॥

गर्गिवचनम् also --

क्षेत्रं होरा च दृक्काणो नवांशो द्वादशांशकः।

त्रिंशांशकश्च वर्गो’यं सर्वस्य समुदाहृतः ॥

 

सर्वत्र स्वार्थे कप्रत्ययः । दृक्काणम् or द्रेक्काणम्

1.राशिः - मेषादिः -- depending on the अधिपति of the राशि of birth one has to predict different qualities of the native.

2.होरा - either half of a राशि

होरेत्यहोरात्रविकल्पमेके

वांछन्ति पूर्वापरवर्णलोपात् ।

कर्मार्जितं पूर्वभवे सदादि

यत्तस्य पंक्तिं समभिव्यनक्ति ॥ ( बृहज्जातकम् - 3)

अ-होरा-त्र -- पूर्वापरवर्णलोपः --होरा

3. द्रेक्काणम् - the राशि is divided into three - each one is called द्रेक्काणम् - the अधिपति (lord) of each द्रेक्काणम् is different . 

4.नवांशः - the राशि is divided into nine - the नवांशाधिपति also to be taken into consideration - some scholars consider this as very important  especially for livelyhood .

5.द्वादशांशः - the राशि is to be divided into twelve and  count मेषादि  in order to check as to which राश्यधिपति is the द्वादशाधिपति at the time of birth . Of late, it seems that Scholars do not pay much attention to this aspect .

6.त्रिंशांशः - the राशि is to be divided into thirty -- कुज is the अधिपति for 5 parts , शनि for 5 , गुरु 8 , बुध 7 , शुक्र 5 . This needs elaboration .

So along with लग्नम् one should  do षड्वर्गपरिशीलनम् and then only try to predict .

Of course , some basic results , such as personality , can be predicted following the लग्नम् ।

It is recommended that a person with good experience (minimum 3000 horoscopes) and शास्त्रज्ञानम् coupled with वाक्शुद्धि may be approached.

मुहूर्तदर्पणे --

त्रिदशत्रिकोणचतुरश्रस्प्तगानवलोकयन्ति च्रणभिवृद्धितः।

रविजामरेड्यरुधिराः परे च ये क्र्मशो भवन्ति सकलेक्षणाधिपाः॥

all planets - aspect 7 th राशि - पूर्णदृष्टिः

पादद्दृष्टिः (additional) - शनिः - 3,10 ; गुरुः - 5,9 ; कुजः - 4, 8 .

when we say राशि and राश्यधिपति  it is implied that all relevant   matters have to be taken into account -- अवस्थाः , शत्रुत्वमित्रत्वे , उच्चनीचस्थानानि , वैष्णववैशेषिकांशादयः , कुलवर्णादिकम् etc .

Same is the case with other Vargas .

As you are aware खेटकदर्शनम् is too vast and therefore unless there is a specific question it is difficult to provide the entire material .

sir ! sorry to interrupt you - i have more to ask regarding prediction,

don't you believe there should be calculation of sights of stars ? eg, jupitor abd mars and satturn have additonal sights ?
