“The world exists in the Brahman but the truth of the Brahman cannot be seized by the intellect. The Rishi Agastya speaks of It as tat adbhutam, above all, beyond all time.” Sri Aurobindo

Dear Scholars,

Greetings from AuroBharati, Sri Aurobindo Society, Puducherry,

The Sri Aurobindo Society, Puducherry  has undertaken a significant initiative to preserve and promote the rich heritage of the Siddha tradition. Over the years, the project has connected leading institutions, scholars, and practitioners while supporting quality research, documentation, publications, and collaborative initiatives, creating a strong foundation for advancing knowledge and ensuring the continuity of this invaluable spiritual and cultural legacy.

As part of the centenary celebrations of the establishment of the Sri Aurobindo Ashram and the historic Siddhi Day, we are organizing a Global Conclave and Digital Portal Launch on Preserving Siddha Traditions: Heritage, Symbolism and Community Collaboration, 05th August, 2026.

This Conclave will bring together eminent scholars, researchers, spiritual practitioners, policymakers, and institutions and will provide a platform to share research, foster collaborations, exchange insights, and chart a collective roadmap for preserving, promoting, and advancing the Siddha heritage for future generations.

Lord Shiva, is regarded in the Siddha tradition as the Adi Siddha, the primordial perfected being who embodies absolute consciousness and liberation. As the source of yogic and tantric wisdom, he is believed to have transmitted the sacred sciences of yoga, mantra, and inner realization to the Siddhars, the enlightened masters. Siddhar Agathiyar is considered as the father of Siddha medicine and revered as the father of Siddha science.

Maharshi Agastya’s contributions span medicine, yoga, alchemy, philosophy, linguistics, and ecology, reflecting an integrated vision of life and health. Maharshi Aurobindo has extensively written on the legacy and contribution of Maharshi Agastya and the Siddha tradition.

Sri Aurobindo is recognized as an Indian philosopher and yogi who interpreted India’s spiritual legacy as an ongoing evolution of consciousness. In connection with the Siddha tradition, he regarded these yogic and tantric lineages as manifestations of an ancient science dedicated to inner transformation aimed at achieving elevated states of existence. He underscored that the purpose of yoga extends beyond mere liberation; it also encompasses the transformation of life itself, which aligns with the Siddha principles of perfected embodiment.

Though his Integral Yoga, he aimed to reconcile spirit and matter, proposing that human evolution can progress towards supramental consciousness. Within this context, the Siddhas are seen as trailblazers of spiritual realization, whose insights play a vital role in the broader development of divine life on earth.

The Siddha heritage represents one of the most ancient traditions of medicine and spirituality in India, believed to have been established by the revered Siddhars—mystic saints and enlightened practitioners. These Siddhars dedicated their lives to spiritual realization, healing practices, and the upliftment of humanity. A significant aspect of Siddha tradition is the concept of ‘Jeeva Samadhi’, wherein Siddhars consciously enter a state of eternal meditation to merge with the universal consciousness. These sacred sites continue to radiate spiritual energy and attract devotees and seekers.

Puducherry, along with other regions of India, holds a rich repository of Siddha heritage. This cultural wealth reflects the depth of Indian civilization and its integration of spirituality, medicine, and philosophy. The present project conference aim to document and preserve the lives, teachings, and contributions of Siddhars through systematic research and digital platforms. This initiative aims to preserve and promote the rich and dynamic cultural heritage of Puducherry, as well as other states and Union Territories of India, recognizing it as an invaluable reflection of the country’s magnificent historical and cultural legacy.

On this auspicious occasion, a dedicated Web Portal on Siddha Heritage will be released, envisioned as a knowledge hub for practitioners, students, researchers, and the global community interested in the profound traditions of Siddha medicine and spirituality. The portal integrates modern web functionalities to ensure easy navigation, accessibility, and scalability. The primary objective of the portal is to systematically document the lives, teachings, and enduring legacies of the revered Siddhas.

The platform will draw upon diverse sources, including archaeological findings, classical literature, and living traditions, thereby creating an integrated and accessible repository of knowledge for future generations.  In the region of Puducherry, historical evidence points to Siddha-related sites documented over a span of five centuries, highlighting the region’s deep connection to this tradition.
