Col (Dr) Manuel Durairaj, {father of Vincentian Dr.Manoj Durairaj - batch of 1986} passed away on 11th Apr 2024, at the age of 84 years.

Dr.Manuel Durairaj was a renowned cardiologist, an exceptional clinician, researcher and teacher who earned a remarkable reputation in the field of Cardiology both nationally & internationally. 
A pioneering cardiologist whose innovations left a lasting impact on cardiac care around the
globe.

Born on 5th Feb 1940, to
Pakkiam Manuel and Madan Manuel, Dr.Manuel Durairaj was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. 

He is survived by his wife Valsamma Durairaj, his daughter Manju Durairaj (Eric), son Dr.Manoj Durairaj (Sheena) and his grandchildren, Joseph Durai Schwister, James Durairaj, and Maria Durairaj. 
His life was a testament to his dedication to his family & his medical profession.

His distinguished career started in the Indian Medical Corps (Army), he retired with the rank of Colonel. 
He founded the Marian Cardiac Centre and Research Foundation in Pune. 
He served as Professor and Chairman of the Department of Cardiology at the Grant
Medical Foundation in Pune. 
He was a significant figure in the Indian College of Cardiology.
He was personal physician to two Presidents of India. 
His work in the development of pacemaker technology and revolutionary cardiac therapy, saved countless lives and
set new standards in the field.

Dr. Durairaj's commitment extended beyond the confines of the hospital and academia as he was deeply involved in the Catholic community, offering his medical expertise and care to countless priests, bishops, religious sisters and brothers.

Even into his 80's, Dr. Durairaj continued his medical practice,
demonstrating his unwavering commitment to his patients.

The loss of Dr.Manuel Durairaj marks the end of an era in the medical community.

The Church service to honor his life will be on 12th April from 4 to 5 pm at St. Patrick's Cathedral, Pune.
