Hi Everyone!

I'm trying to connect to a vncserver on a Raspberry Pi running the current version of Raspbian, but even using a Basic VNC connection, I still get an error:

Should I be able to connect using bVNC Free?  I see that someone else has been having similar problems https://groups.google.com/g/bvnc-ardp-aspice-opaque-remote-desktop-clients/c/sKEGJVq9d_s/m/ywz90PGfAAAJ so maybe this isn't supported.  I've tried the other connection types but they either don't work, or seem to require setup options that aren't appropriate.

The vncserver is running correctly as I can connect to it using the RealVNC Viewer from my Windows PC, and I was able to connect to it from my phone using the RealVNC Viewer for Android.  However, I had to do a factory reset of my phone, but now can't install the RealVNC Viewer because my phone is running Android 5.1 and the viewer requires Android 6.

Hope that you can help and save me buying a new phone! :-)

Thanks

Paul

Just figured out how to connect, so recording that here in case someone else needs help.

To be able to connect using bVNC you need to switch the authentication scheme from UNIX password to VNC password, and then create a VNC password, as described in the Authenticating to VNC Server section of https://www.raspberrypi.org/documentation/remote-access/vnc/

If you have access to the Raspberry Pi desktop, you can access the VNC Server dialog by click on the VNC icon in the taskbar, i.e.

bVNC - 2021_0628 - VNC icon.jpg

Otherwise, you can follow the instructions in https://www.raspberrypi.org/documentation/remote-access/vnc/ to make the changes using the command line.

Hope that helps.

As RealVNC have discontinued Chrome & Android Viewer support, I am trying bVNC.
I have had to use SSH to connect to my Pi which functions as a media server

https://www.raspberrypi.org/documentation/remote-access/vnc/

Worked for me

I remember viewing this but did not reply because I saw you solved it. But I wanted to say thanks for sharing everyone. Glad to see community is helping each other.
