No playback with 1.9.1

I recently updated from 1.8 to 1.9.1 located on the github page.
Im trying to load up some new bvh files I captured over the weekend but all I get is a t-pose and there is no playback when I hit play, nor is there any motion when I try to manually move the playhead on the timeline. I can import the same bvh file into Poser or Blender and see all the data. I have not run into a problem in bvhacker like this before.
I tried to keep the bvh files fairly small to avoid long load times. Not sure what is going on. Anyone run into similar?
