Cancellation of confirmed booking by resort

Hi,

Not sure if anyone can help me. I've booked 5 nights at Berjaya Langkawi from 13Apr2014 to 18Apr2014 back in July 2013. I received a call earlier today from BVC informing me that the resort (Berjaya Langkawi) is close during that period for a private function and is looking at options to accommodate me. 

I've told BVC that I've already made flight arrangement (and email to them my FireFly booking, Subang/Langkawi return flight as prove) and that the Langkawi trip is just part of my holidays.I hope that there's no changes to my plan as it may mess up with my other flight/hotel arrangement. Do note that I'm based out of Singapore. BVC said they will convey the message to Berjaya Langkawi.

My question is

a) Does BVC or the resort hotel have the right to cancel my confirmed booking? Do note that I've made my reservation way back in July.

b) And if BVC or the resort hotel does have the right to cancel confirmed booking, what kind of compensation am I entitle to?

Hi Loke,

To warrant a close for the whole resort for a private function, I'm guessing LIMA 2014 is in town.

If so, the resort can sell the rooms higher than the published rack rates.

Do check up on this.

Short of an emergency / damaged rooms, you are well within your rights for your confirmed entitlement.

The Liaison Committee may be able to advise.
