I have deleted my dropbox account, but on my Macbook in a folder called Public, there appear a folder called dropbox. when i delete it it still appears next time i start my Mac. Why?? Can you help me. Maybe delete a link on my former account
The folder "Drop Box" inside the folder "Public" has nothing to do with the "Dropbox" service, despite the name similarity. The "Drop Box" folder is provided by Apple for other users on your computer or your local network (if there are any) can pass files to you securely. (They can drop files into the folder but not look into the folder, kind of like an old-fashioned suggestion box or a postal collection box.)

Everything appears to be working OK after upgrading on both systems. I am able to add items to my DropBox folder on either system and they sync just fine. I was perplexed by the difference in the installations, given the information detailed in the support doc. I assumed that I would run into the same Dropbox folder relocation on the iMac as I did on the MacBook Pro.
I am confused about the effects of update to 12.6. The Dropbox button on top tool bar does not go into the Dropbox folder but a status page with "list" sync history or activity. When I click on folder it comes up with regular Dropbox folders but shows it constantly in sync mode. I have stopped it syncing but whenever I go back it still has a static blue sync indicator. While I have been out of IT for many years this does a. not help b. shows a possible lack of compatibility with 12.6?
I, too, rely on an external drive for my Dropbox folder. I have a Dropbox Plus plan, in which I store close to 2TB of data. Unfortunately, my Mac has only 256GB internal storage. I know that I could select online-only for the bulk of my Dropbox files and keep only a select few locally, but I want all 2TB both stored locally and continuously synced to Dropbox. Having my Dropbox folder on an external drive made this possible. Is there an alternate solution that I'm missing?
I really cannot fathom how you can ask that question. "Is there any specific reason you'd need your Dropbox folder on an external drive?" That is so blatantly obvious that I cannot believe you asked it. Internal drives being small, dropboxes being large. Why is that not absolutely obvious!!!
Been using Dropbox for decades (!) with zero problems and great benefits, including syncing all projects and sound libraries. (My syncing is for backup, backup versioning and duplicate my work on multiple systems.)
Up until now Dropbox has technically and practically been perfect for me, and a much better service than iCloud, but now.... Not enthusiastic about these changes, though it might turn out unproblematic in the end. Many other cloud storage services also introduce similar restricitions. There are more practical details and experiences in this Hacker News thread and here's a Macrumours article on the change.)
But I don't know, I also really don't like these changes ? In particular I don't like this update being forced on me automatically, AFAIK there is no way to turn off Dropbox autoupdating itself and at the same time keep using Dropbox as normal. I would very much like to do this update manually, when I have time to be conscious about it and verify that everything works. At best I'd wait until I have to migrate to macOS 13.
I am also a vefy long term Dropbox user and have everything in there. And I just recently ran into problems on my 2 iMacs (though interestingly not Macbook Pro) with all my Logic project files "disappearing". I say "disappearing" because they are still visible on my Macbook Pro. Where did you get to with it?...
However worth to note, they have NOT transitioned me automatically to the new "Dropbox for macos on File Provider", this has not been enforced on me on any system (yet!). I got a notification some time ago that asked me if I wanted to shift; "you are eligible for the updated Dropbox" (sneaky wording trying to make me do it, they clearly want you to). But they left the decision up to me, and kept "old" Dropbox regularly updated separate from this The same actually happened on a brand new system running 13.5, there too I was given the choice and declined. So also my macOS 13 system is still using vintage Dropbox.
I guess at some point I'll HAVE to transition to that file-provider-version, but at that moment in time - probably when I get a new mac and then being forced onto a new macOS which might not run vintage Dropbox or something else critical for me - then I'll revise the situation then, at that crossroad. (My expectation is that by the time I will be forced to do this upgrade, all bugs and problems with file provider will have been solved and/or sensible alternatives has appeared.)
This is only my experience, others might have different. I have no experience with projects disappearing, sorry to hear that. You might be able to figure out what happened by visiting the folder on Dropbox and see the history.
That is really interesting, and you've reminded me that I previously had this on my radar and consciously stayed a version or 2 behind with things, but at some point it has either been forced on me or I absent-mindedly acquiesced to one of their annoying pop-ups. And now I'm stuck with it. However, I think I've found a workaround. This is only affecting my 2 more powerful (and older - 2015) machines. They are high spec. so still have a few years left in them but for this Dropbox problem. I also have a Macbook Pro which is only a few years old and running Ventura (crucially - I realise now that I misspoke when I said that the 2 iMacs were running Ventura in my earlier post - they are too old and are on Monterey). Since my Macbook Pro does not have the Dropbox problem, I tried copying the entire project folders from there to an external hard drive (remember those? - I dusted mine off today) and when I import from there to my older 2 iMacs, the projects appear - even in Dropbox territory. Those more tech-savvy than me (your cat maybe?) will know the reason for this better than I, but could it possibly be something to do with where the project was created? I can't see how else this could happen.
Anyway it's not ideal, but with the larger Dropbox problems looming, I'm actually going back to a physical back up on external drives so as to resolve this problem once and for all as I've wasted far too much time on it. I still use Dropbox for non-Logic files, but I just find it a total pain in the ar$e for Logic and have had enough.
I have an AppleScript that finds and orange tags files within any specified directory, however it is unable to find files within a dropbox folder. Not sure why this does not work. Below it the script. Ideas on how to modify this is appreciated.
Thanks

Mac OS Ventura, Bridge 2023. Dropbox has force-moved its on-the-Mac folder to 'Locations' in the Finder sidebar. Bridge browser CANNOT see this location, so no files in the Dropbox folder are accessible via Bridge.
Now, take any file, image, whatever, and drag that onto your copy of Bridge on your Dock. That will open the contents of DB in Bridge. You will likely get a message asking if it's OK that Bridge has access to DropBox say yes and also say yes to any other such messages: it's now in CloudStorage, inside your username folder.
Cloud services are unsupported and Adobe has made zero effort to get them to work. You may not be able to get this to show up in Folders and it may not work correctly even if you do. See my comments below from October.
Hi schmidtlap,
I have the same Problem in the german version and can't find any soulution about it... a few days before I did the dropbox-Update on my Macs and it's really hard that I can't use the folder panel to navigate! I can't unterstand that there was no problem before the update...
If I activate the function that bridge shows me every file, it works and show me the subfolders of the file path ([user]/Library/CloudStorage/Dropbox), but that's not how I've worked all the years...
Up to a point. If the folder is on the computer, it can work with images in that folder. Where things can and do get glitchy is if you are working with other people and sharing files back and forth between others and using DB as a pseudo server, then the chaos will reign with Bridge. But, if you are the sole user of the content of a folder, it has worked OK for me, with no noticeable issues or problems.
