I recently went back and binged Glee. I stopped after The Quarterback because of the feels. I've done it before, and I'll probably end up doing it again. Something hit me whilst I was watching, though. Although I had forgotten about a lot of the plot lines in seasons 1-2, the music for the most part stayed with me. Season 3 is where I forget about more songs, but the plot is still relatively fresh. However, I realized that season 4 is when I really forgot about things, specifically the songs and plot-lines. What was different about season 4? For me, it was the season in which the show tried to take itself too seriously. The majority of the songs were top 40, and they were all pretty much forgettable.

Don't get me wrong. Rewatching it, season 4 isn't as bad as I initially thought. Although the songs were forgettable, they weren't bad. It's just that they seemed almost random. None of the ending songs were memorable for me. Yes, I could name a few now that I've recently rewatched. However, I found myself saying, "I completely forgot they did this song!" on several occasions. It's only been about a month, and I've already forgotten most of season 4's soundtrack. Honestly, I think it has to do with the fact that it was mainly just chart toppers/current popular music.

Seasons 1-3 had a good mix of music from all walks of life: currently popular, nostalgically popular, broadway, etc. The majority of the songs fit within the episodes. It didn't seem like they were singing a song just to have a Glee! cover of it. Unfortunately, season 4 did feel like the songs were just...there. They served hardly any purpose toward the plots, which were also just as forgettable.

In season 2, Sam delivers a throwaway line that he's dyslexic, and I'm pretty sure it's never or rarely ever brought up again. In season 4, Ryder being dyslexic is his main flaw. This would've been the perfect opportunity for him to bond with Sam. Although Sam's line was a throwaway, his dyslexia could've been brought up again -- maybe have him help Ryder through the difficult process. Instead, what we got was pretty much, "I'm dyslexic." "Oh no!" "Yep."

The Marley/Jake/Ryder thing was boring because nothing ever happened. There was no tension. It was just, "Jake, I like Ryder." "Oh no!" "JK, Jake. I like you now." It dragged on throughout the whole season, and nothing ever came of it.

There was so much happening during season 4 that it all felt like a blur. Every plot tried to be major, which made the season feel like it had no focus. Season 1 focused on winning Sectionals/Regionals, as well as the Glee kids trying to find their way in high school. The mini-plots revolved around that. Season 2 focused on getting to Nationals and explored Kurt's struggles with finding a place of belonging. Again, the mini-plots revolved around this. Season 3 even has an overall goal. Get back to Nationals and win this time. Finn and Rachel's relationship is also a main focus throughout the season. In season 4, the main focus is what? New kids? Finn learning to become a better man? Rachel trying to succeed at her dream? Kurt trying to find his dream? Surely, it's not about the competition anymore because I honestly forgot they even competed during season 4.

Season 4 was not terrible. It just wasn't memorable in either the songs or the plots. When I think about the show, season 4 is a blur -- even the parts that were good. Watching it again for instance, I found myself really enjoying their rendition of "Unchained Melody," despite its inclusion feeling very forced and random. Season 4 just lacked focus. It tried to be too popular with its song choices, and none of the plots had satisfying conclusions. They all just happened.

tl;dr : I think season 4 of Glee is forgettable because it lacked any sort of focus. There were too many plots vying for major attention, and the songs rarely fit the episode. The songs were just there. The plots were just there. The season isn't terrible; it's just forgettable imo.

Approximately 16 days ago, I asked you guys to rank the season four soundtrack of the new TV show, Glee. Because let's be honest, it became a new show here. The results are finally in, and well, the character bias is real.

Songs that deserved better: So, so many songs deserved better. The list is simply too long. Looking from the bottom and up, these are the songs I think deserved so much better: You're All the World to Me (criminally low and I bet it's only because Schue is in it. this Wemma duet is so pretty), all the Stevie Wonder songs (although Kitty's solo was by far not the best and Kurt's was ok), My Prerogative, Hung Up, No Scrubs (possibly the best male group number this season) and Boys/Boyfriend (super underrated mash-up!).

I reviewed the first three seasons of the show for the A.V. Club and kept up fitfully with later seasons. The general consensus is that Glee's best season was its 22-episode first season, which is true. But I would go further than that. The best "season" of Glee is actually its first 13 episodes, produced in one chunk, before the last nine episodes of season one were produced later.

Near the end of the pilot, Will Schuester (Matthew Morrison), the teacher who never saw his own performing career advance past his high-school glee club days, learns that his wife (Jessalyn Gilsig) is pregnant. The two don't have a healthy marriage, and they're clearly trying to have a child to save that marriage.

I was re-watching season 6 and I remember they never got a regional or national performance. They did it off screen. So I wonder what songs did they choose for the performance of each part of the competition. We know they won nationals but I want to know what song did they sing. What would you have chosen for their songs? If I had the choice or Nationals I would have chosen a Panic at the Disco Melody. The song Choices would be high hopes, look ma I made it, and Victorious. I was going to get you the greatest show as well I'm not sure if it would work out.

I liked her in seasons 1-3, especially when she dated Mike and helped him stick to his dream of being a dancer despite him being rude to her (when she spoke to his dad). She was always likeable and kind. Then in season 4, she suddenly becomes self-centred and mean. She keeps demanding solos when she doesn't even have the best voice in the group, she's so awful to Marley and incessantly blaming her for New Directions losing sectionals, she's obsessed with Blaine even though he's GAY, and got Sam in trouble to separate him from Blaine. Like... what happened? Why did the writers suddenly decide to ruin her character? Even Kitty is more likeable than Tina in season 4. The final straw for me was when she was taking care of Blaine when he was sick and unbuttoned his shirt to put Vaporub on him and cuddled him while he slept. Not only did her random love for Blaine come out of NOWHERE, but that felt... gross. The writers fucked up BAD.

Has it ever been revealed in interview or by cast members / RM what the intended storyline was for Finn in the original plans for season 5? Looks like at the end of season 4 he had agreed to re-join and co-direct the club with Mr. Shue - but was completely absent in the first few S5 episodes. Had they been filmed before cory's accident or were they re-filmed?

Rachel became a much worse person after season 1 after having learned her lessons but then forgetting them. She also became so insecure in season 2 when in season 1 she was the most confident one at school and her fashion style changed.

I'm currently rewatching Glee and after watching season 5 episode 13 I noticed it felt a lot like season finale, and it made me wonder was it meant to be the season finale and if not why does it feel like it. Part of the reason I think this is because it has happened before, on 'And that's what you REALLY missed' Kevin and Jenna revealed that the reason episode 13 'sectionals' feels like a season finale was because if the rest of the season didn't get enough positive attention after going to dvd it would of been, although maybe for a different reason, it could of been the same for season 5 episode 13. Something else that reveals that this could be a possibility is the episode number that 'new directions' is, episode 13. Season 6 ended on episode 13 and season 1 could of potentially ended on episode 13 so it would of made perfect sense that season 5 could of ended on episode 13. The way the whole episode showed everyone's final goodbye's to the glee club and the scene at the end that showed a closeup of the piano stool made it all seem like a season finale and that next season would show everyone after the glee club which is what the rest of season 5 is . it just felt like the natural stopping point for the season . Maybe that's why season 6 felt very weird and superficial (more than the other seasons) because the 2nd halve of season 5 was meant to be season 6.

I'm rewatching(well, admittedly skipping some because it's Glee's worst season yet) Season 5 and I'm getting to the end of Santana's feud with Rachel, which to me was a very interesting storyline. Here's my take on the situation:

writing. RIB wrote the entirety of seasons 1 and 2 together. after season 2, Ryan became busier with american horror story and his other projects, so RIB hired a team of writers to write most of the episodes from that point forward. this could point as to how glee never really felt the same after seasons 1 and 2.

2. critical response. nearly every reward that glee has ever been nominated for had only been for the first two seasons. chris colfer had won a golden globe for his performance in the second season. glee won a golden globe for the second season. every single character nomination for major awards have been in the first two seasons. glee stopped getting nominated for major awards after the second season. glee won a grammy for the first 2 seasons, and by the end of 2009, they were at #9 for records sold that year.
