I had a large library of personal video files that I converted to MP4 and deleted the non MP4 version. Plex added the new MP4 files but wouldn't remove the MP4 files from the library. Nothing would cause those deleted files to disappear. I tried Refreshing All Metadata, Scan Library Files, Empty Trash, Analyze, Optimize Database and Clean Bundles but Plex just kept the files and labeled it as "Unavailable".
Once you delete a library it is removed from the list. Depending on the items in the library, it could take a few minutes to delete. You should see the activity monitor in Plex become active as the library is deleted.
Keep in mind that if you do use the Plex API to delete a library, you will need to ensure you use the correct library ID. There is no confirmation of when the library is removed from the Plex server when using the API.
I have been playing around with subtitles. I decided to try plex's automatic subtitle tool, but I realized it is full english sub titles, and that isn't what I want. Now I have subtitles for my entire library that I don't want to use. I found where the metadata is stored on my computer, but it would take hours to get through all my movies one by one. I feel like my best course of action is to delete my entire library and just reload everything, including my brand new foreign language only subtitles.
When I try to delete either a media or collection in Emby, it warns "Deleting this item will delete it from both the file system and your media library". Not wanting to delete the file from my NAS, I did not proceed and clicked cancel.
If I attempt to delete the offending collection, I get the message "Deleting this item will delete it from both the file system and your media library." Will deleting the collection also delete the files off my NAS?
I just deleted a song from my music playlist and it did delete the song from the Nas. I was lucky enough to have a backup. Do not delete anything from music playlists unless you want to remove it from the Nas! This needs to be fixed.
A previous post (#14) stated that a playlist item would not be removed from the source, when deleting, and I was clarifying that it did, in fact, remove the playlist item(individual track(s)) from the source, in my case a NAS, using Windows Emby Theater app. I wanted to provide a clear answer before someone deletes many hours of work.

Simply about choice for one, but I am also looking to experiment with the Channels DVR files to be piped into the Plex Library for later use. I run both media servers and there's an idea I have to use the channels DVR side but have plex view the folders as a Library (because the TVE has much more channels than the Plex DVR single Tuner). At that point then Plex may not even skip the commercials since it only sees the raw video file so it would need to be processed by channels to pre-remove them.
simply said, Channels DVR records, marks, deletes saves the file and plex pulls the TV directory in as a library. It's a viable use case since CHannels has more DVR/TVE options in it but I tend to like the Plex UI and functions more for playback.

You should change a few settings now in order to make adding new media to your library as seamless as possible. Remote access can also be enabled, which will let you use the Plex web client , and manage your server, from anywhere in the world.
This morning, I go to continue watching and I see that plex is down? I login and see what I can't access :32400/web. I check the status of plex and I see that it failed to load the preferences.xml file? It also shows active for 8 hours, what could have caused this or where can I go from here to troubleshoot? I am new to linux so any help would be appreciated!
Thank you!!! You are our true HERO! This worked perfectly - especially creating another copy via "windows" side of the house, with "all possible file detail properties" removed! After that, I didn't have to 'refresh library metadata;' just "Scan Library Files" for the specific library and it's fixed!
If you have watched a movie and are unlikely to want to watch it again, you can delete it in much the same way as you move, add or change them. Delete the movie from your computer as you normally would and then select Update Library once more. The movie will disappear from your library listing.

Worked perfectly for me. I had to remove the Plex subvolume since I moved my disks/volumes from a dead diskstation to a new one and did not want to reinstall Plex (I really never used it). So I needed to cleanup the disk.

Deleting or removing a media file does not necessitate complicated procedures; rather, they are straightforward. Flush with VC money, Plex wants to move away from its origins. That is blatantly obvious. Head over to the Plex website today and it takes four scrolls or more to even get to a mention of personal media library. The company is clearly stepping away from its association with the space.
The reason for that is obvious. Sure, a portion of the Plex userbase acquires its media library from legitimate sources, but the service has long been associated with piracy. That has only gotten worse over the years as more and more users start running cloud instances of Plex capable of streaming to hundreds of people simultaneously. It makes sense that Plex wants to distance itself from that practice. But a lackluster replica of existing solutions carries a greater risk of alienating the userbase, instead of bringing more subscribers into the fold.
The first option will prevent items that you've added to collections from showing in the main library; only the collection itself will show as a single item. The second option will show both the collection and each individual item within the collection in your library.
