The Snapshot Viewer enables you to view a report snapshot without having the standard or run-time versions of Microsoft Access 97 through Access 2007. This version is the first release on CNET Download.com.
Why was this Bulletin revised on October 14, 2008?
When this bulletin was first released an update for the standalone Snapshot Viewer for Microsoft Access was not available. An update for the standalone viewer has now been made available from the Microsoft Download Center. Users who have successfully installed the update for Microsoft Office 2000 Service Pack 3, Office XP Service Pack 2, or Office 2003 Service Pack 2 or Office 2003 Service Pack 3 do not need to reinstall the update for the standalone Snapshot Viewer for Microsoft Access.
Impact of workaround. The ActiveX control will no longer instantiate in Internet Explorer. Customers who rely on this control to view a report snapshot, without the standard or run-time versions of Microsoft Office Access 2000 up to Microsoft Office Access 2007 installed, may see that their reports will not display using the ActiveX control for Snapshot Viewer through Internet Explorer.
Note Add any sites that you trust not to take malicious action on your system. Two in particular that you may want to add are *.windowsupdate.microsoft.com and *.update.microsoft.com. These are the sites that will host the update, and it requires an ActiveX Control to install the update.
What is the Snapshot Viewer for Microsoft Access?
The Snapshot Viewer enables you to view an Access report snapshot without having the standard or run-time versions of Microsoft Office Access.
The SnapshotPath property is a String value representing the fully qualified path and file name to the snapshot file to be displayed in the control. The property can be set to the name of a snapshot file on a local computer, a file on a network, or a file located on at an HTTP or FTP address.
If you set the SnapshotPath property to a zero-length string or the name of a nonexistent file, then nothing is displayed in the control. If you set this property to the name of a file that is not a snapshot file, then a snapshot file icon with a red "X" is displayed in the control.
Because the control supports HTTP and FTP addresses, the control may not know if the SnapshotPath property is valid at the time it is set. You can use the ReadyState property to determine if a valid snapshot file has been loaded into the control.
For the installation to work silently, you need the version of snapshotviewer included in a hotfix described in KB885883. The hotfix can be downloaded at =885883&kbln=en-us. You need then to extract the hotfix so you have the snpvw.exe installer executable.

Identifies when an attempt was made to restored RDS Snapshot. Snapshots are sometimes shared by threat actors in order to exfiltrate bulk data. If the permissions were modified, verify if the snapshot was shared with an unauthorized or unexpected AWS account.
Restoring snapshots may be done by a system or network administrator. Verify whether the user identity, user agent, and/or hostname should be making changes in your environment. Snapshot restoration from unfamiliar users or hosts should be investigated. If known behavior is causing false positives, it can be exempted from the rule.
You can have valid credentials to authenticate your requests, but unless you have permissions you cannot create or access AWS Directory Service resources. For example, you must have permissions to create an AWS Directory Service directory or to create a directory snapshot.
