I received my trimmer this week and opened the box yesterday. The assembly instructions were clear and the process of assembly was simple (extend the handle, fill with oil, add gas). The trimmer started on the first pull of the starter rope. The instructions provide guidance on how to operate in tough grass and weeds. After breaking a few trimmer lines I realized that I had been treating the trimmer as if it were a push mower. Once I began using the trimmer as instructed in the owner's manual I stopped breaking lines and managed to cut about 1/4 acre without having to replace the line. the method of attaching the liens to the rotating trimmer head is simple and fool proof. The attachment point is welded wire and looks as though it is built to last. The rotating trimmer head seems sturdy (appears to be about 1/8" steel). I noted that a steel head is an extra cost option for a different brand. I believe that his machine was designed for the rural lifestyle (we know that st uff that is actually used - and is not a garage ornament - will have parts wear out or break. A trip to the manufacturer's web page reveals that replacement parts are available - indicating that this equipment is likely to be usable long after the offshore stuff has been tossed. I will update this review after giving the trimmer a fair trial but sop far I am impressed.

A note about Wayfair - The original trimmer I received was DOA. Wayfair replaced it at no cost to me. I am very satisfied with their customer service.

Really, Really, Good .. Gas, string, User Comfort and Productivity.

I have operated other trimmers of this type and this is the best one that I have used. I have used a Poulan and a Swisher and they both fell way short of this model. Not that this model is anything special as I think it is a MTD produced machine. Compared to the other models which I have used this model uses much less gas and seldom breaks a line ( I used the same line on all three ) which the other two do quite frequently. Because this machine runs smoothly and does not shake you to death it is much easier on the operator. I could cut at least twice as much area in the same time with this unit than the competitors and I could cut four times as much in a day because I was not worn out as quickly. Burns less gas, easier on the operator, and very few stops to replace the cutting line. This machine actually wears the line out before it breaks it very often. The controls work well with a stop for the head while starting and to stop the trimmer head without stopping th e engine. I would pay for this machine even if the other machines I have used were free .. it is that much better.
