5Great ride great cut!
By Amazon Customer
I recently purchased a brand new old stock model 23 (old version) and was impressed by how decent it handled and it cut very well. I loved the minimalist design of the older models and the tried and true technologies, however I needed a bigger cutting deck. It came with a 28" and I couldn't cut next to the curb or fence with it, the deck doesn't extend past the wheels. I consulted my dealer and he was very cool with taking the model 23 back and upgrading me to the RE130. There are literally no more new model 23s with a 33" deck, but I was hesitant to jump to the newer model.... But I'm glad I did!!

The RE130 is a superior product in EVERY WAY! The ride is more comfortable, the blade engagement is smoother and more positive, the transmission and clutch/brake are smoother. The engine seemed more quiet, and the turn radius is much much tighter. The reverse lockout is intuitive and stays on once you engage it. The emergency brake engagement slider is WAY easier to operate than the old foot activated hold down bar.

I had mine fitted with a ninja mulching blade and a bagger and with this configuration the mower doesn't get overwhelmed when the grass gets way too tall like my 3 year old Toro recycler did. Excess grass that would normally clump goes to the bagger, leaving the lawn perfect. The hi-vac deck literally vacuums my lawn, picking up small sticks, oak tree seeds, leaves, and pine straw, depositing them into the bagger.

The other rear engine riders I looked at felt cheaply made with lots of breakable plastic all over, whereas the Snapper is completely metal and feels very solid underneath me. I see lots of old snappers in people's yards still cutting after many many years of service. Hopefully this one will last just as long. It feels like it will.

I bought the RE-130 33 Inch 12.5 HP Model. It's a well built machine but was disappointed in some things with it. There are no notches to hold the speed handle in place. When you ride, the vibration and bumps force the speed handle forward and the mower keeps going faster. I have to hold the handle in place to keep the speed constant. When going fast and making a turn the front wheel lifts up like you are pulling a wheeley. The ride is HARD, you FEEL a bump when you hit one and you FEEL a hole when you hit one. It didn't handle high grass well and the engine started to stall. I had a 4 bladed mulching blade put on it and it wouldn't cut the grass until I lowered the deck to almost scraping the ground. When the front tire goes into a dip in the ground it raises the rear drive wheel off the ground and you get no traction and the mower stops. Just had one of the front tires lose air and go flat. The tires are cheap nylon tubeless ones. Well the tire lip won't seal on the rim when it's flat, so I can't reinflate it. The air keeps leaking out and the tire axle has a cap on the end that won't come off so I can't remove the tire to take it somewhere to get it reinflated. The only really good thing about this mower was that it steered and turned very easily.
