Hello team

I received an email from a lady named Tanja with regards to an apprenticeship. I told her that I'm not the best person to help her with that, but was wondering if you guys would have any advice? I've copied and pasted her email below.

Cheers
Natalie

Hello Natalie,

Thank you very for your response.
What I am looking for is someone to learn more butoh from- in closer line with a direct lineage to Hijikata, Ohno, or Ashikawa (the unsung mother)- and relate it to not only my practice but one situated in an evolving butoh universe.
Although I have reached out to some of the ASTR panel participants- like yourself, I would appreciate any leads you can offer from the inside.
; )

Thank you.

Best,
Tanja

Hi Tanja
I'm sorry my reply's come in a bit late, because I don't check this email account very often. I'm not sure if I'm the best person to help you with an internship because I'm only in the beginning stages of my scholarship into buto!
What I can do is forward your email to the buto conference group from ASTR. They're a lovely bunch of people, many of whom are practitioners and based in the US (I'm in Australia).

I wish you all the very best, and will be in touch with you again.

Subject: Grad student interested in internship

Hello,

My name is Tanja Woloshen and I am perpetual student of butoh practice, as well a creator, performer, and teacher.

This fall I began my MFA graduate studies at UBC Okanagan, in Kelowna, British Columbia Canada.  My thesis topic is focusing on butoh dance as a means of contemporary embodiment. Included in my research I aim to develop my butoh practice with an expanded pedagogy in this regard.

Kelowna is not a place with a butoh community (to say the least), and unfortunately I learnt of the recent ASTR/CORD conference in Seattle too late for me to attend. In looking at the conference program I am wondering about future possibilities to share knowledge.  I am going to go out on a limb here. I would like to ask you about apprenticeship opportunities/ internship positions/ performance opportunities that I could do with you to learn more about your practice/research and your pedagogy. I am interested in something for next summer 2011. It is very important to me to connect with like minds.

I would very happy to talk/email about any possibilities. For potential support from here, I may be eligible for student research/study bursaries through my school, or other national arts organizations in Canada.

I have attached my CV so you can see what I've been up to.

Very Best,

Tanja Woloshen

I would say either Natsu, or Su-en if she's trying to get the Ashikawa method...

I told her to look up the Tamanos and especially Joan since she can get to Seattle and maybe SF without too much trouble.
