MAYOR APPOINTS NEW DIRECTOR OF DEPARTMENT OF METROPOLITAN DEVELOPMENT

INDIANAPOLIS - Mayor Greg Ballard today announced the appointment of Adam Thies as the Director of the City's Department of Metropolitan Development (DMD). Adam steps to the helm of the City agency tasked with Community and Economic Development, Historic Preservation, Metropolitan and Neighborhood Planning on October 1.

"Adam's extensive experience as a city planner and strategist will play an important role as Indianapolis grows into a more livable and sustainable city," said Mayor Ballard.

Thies founded EDEN Collaborative, a consulting practice, in 2004.  His experience includes urban design and landscape architecture, redevelopment and neighborhood planning, implementation and project management, organizational strategy and research, and municipal policy and codes. He has led and managed many of Indiana's premiere planning and design projects including planning for the Super Bowl 2012 Legacy Neighborhood Project and the creation of a plan for Midtown Indianapolis.

A member of the American Institute of Certified Planners, the American Planning Association, Urban Land Institute and United States Green Building Council, Thies earned his Bachelor of Science in Environmental Design from Ball State University, his Bachelor of Urban Planning and Development from Ball State Magna Cum Laude as a Fellow in Urban Design, and his Certificate of Urban Real Estate from the University of Illinois at Chicago College of Business. Prior to founding EDEN in 2004, he served as a full-time faculty member in the College of Architecture and Planning at Ball State.

Thies succeeds DMD Director Maury Plambeck, who will be spearheading a program aimed at directing the next wave of RebuildIndy investments into our neighborhoods.

"Maury's experience in planning and zoning and his relationships with our neighborhoods makes him the perfect choice to direct RebuildIndy neighborhood investments," said Mayor Ballard. "I am pleased we can expand Maury's role and have him continue to serve the people of Indianapolis."
