Dear all

Here are the latest fleet changes from the Reading Buses group.

Reading Buses

401 went away for repaint on 3 August, refreshing it’s current Mereoak P&R livery including a new rear for Campus Reading International (formerly known as RIBP), returning on 1 September.

402 went away for repaint on 10 August to refresh it’s current Mereoak P&R livery.

403 went away for repaint on 26 August to refresh it’s current Mereoak P&R livery.

709 returned from repaint into greenwave livery (ex purple 17) on 26 August, returning to service on 3 September.

795 re-entered service on 9 August in Green Line 702 livery (ex light blue Milton Park base), but covered one trip on the 703 on 6 August amidst type training. It gained temporary orange Hanover LED destinations in place of Mobitech displays, but these were swapped for white ones on 11 August.

25 was collected by Midland Classic on 11 August and 26 on approx. 20 August.

1203’s loan from N&D since 19 April was made a permanent transfer in from 30 August. It is booked to receive an advertising livery for the Reading Buses app on 8 September on the base black N&D livery.

1207 was returned to N&D off loan on 24 July.

Lion branded 1210 and 1211 transferred to Thames Valley Buses from 30 August, along with three workings on the Lion 4/X4 route. 1210/11 were not however ready to physically transfer on that day, so 219 and 1201 went on short term loan in their place pending transfer. 1210 transferred on 2 September in exchange for 1201.

700-705 remain SORN, and 185 remains on site pending disposal. 185 has been re-registered back to it’s original registration YM55 SVK.

781-2 are expected back from Yellow Buses on Sunday 5th September, going directly to Mill Lane, Newbury for the Vodafone contract which resumes on 6th. 520 is expected back from Cardiff Bus over the weekend too.

Newbury & District

A new addition to the fleet is 72 seat Volvo B8R / Plaxton Leopard YX68 TZS which was collected on 1 September and entered service on 3 September numbered 1418. It was previously with GSAL Transport “The Grammar School at Leeds” and is for a new West Berkshire school contract. It is currently plain white and will receive N&D coaching livery in the coming weeks. It is also booked in for PSVAR conversion in November.

A second new coach is currently being sourced for another new contract.

1203 officially transferred to Reading Buses on 24 July having been on loan there since 19 April.

1204-6 went on loan to Thames Valley Buses on 24 July, with 1204 becoming a permanent transfer there from 30 August and 1205/6 returning on 1 September.

1207 was returned from loan to Reading Buses on 24 July.

This leaves 1205/6/7 from the E400 classics at N&D for September following changes to school contract requirements.

783-6 are expected back from Yellow Buses on Sunday 5th September.

Thames Valley Buses

Three 11.8m ADL Enviro200MMCs are on order from ADL stock, the first (681) is due in October for the extended 194 and the other two (682/3) on 1 March 2022 to replace Volvos 451/4.

797 has been repainted into Thames Valley two tone red route 194 livery, re-entering service on 31 August.

234 has been repainted into Thames Valley generic livery (ex light blue Milton Park base), returning to service on 3 September.

1204/5/6 came in on loan from N&D on 24 July to cover the summer 700/701 service (although 1206 did not physically arrive until 1 August). 1205/6 returned off loan on 1 September.

1204 transferred in from N&D along with 1210/11 from Reading from 30 August to cover three workings on the Lion 4/X4 route that have been transferred in from Reading. In the event 1210/11 were not however ready for transfer, so 219 and 1201 came in on temporary loan from Reading to cover. 1210 transferred on 2 September in exchange for 1201. 219 remains on loan at the time of writing.

1204 is booked to an advertising livery for the Reading Buses app on 15 September, on the base black N&D livery.

Thank you again for the updates.

Can I ask, is there a particular reason why 701-705 were chosen for SORN, and remain so? I am curious because these are low-emission gas-powered vehicles.

Thanks, Julian Walker

They plus 700 are waiting for warranty work to be completed by Scania to rectify an issue that only affects these six unique vehicles.

Regards,

Robert
