Reading X34

I had occasion to look up details of Reading Transport X34 (Newbury – Oxford) recently and there appears to be a gap in my records.
It’s recorded that in April 1997 the Monday to Friday service became an Oxfordshire contract whilst the Saturday service stayed commercial; I have a note that the latter was withdrawn on 20th March 1999, but I don’t have anything further on the M-F operation. Does anyone know when that was withdrawn?

From what I can tell, Stagecoach Oxford were operating a 234 Didcot to Newbury via Hampstead Norreys from at least 2 May 2000, possibly 1999. One assumes that was a West Berkshire contract with some funding from Oxfordshire.
From 2 January 2001, work to improve services to Harwell IBC, included Stagecoach introducing route 34 Oxford to Newbury via Abingdon and Harwell IBC. Both the 34 and 234 disappeared a year later from January 2002 with the exception of one journey a day on the 34 between Oxford and Harwell IBC.
The Stagecoach 34 was increased to two journeys a day sometime in the 2000s and stayed unchanged for many years. The route passed to Thames Travel with the route swapping of January 2022, then it passed to parent Oxford Bus Company in September 2022, and then was renumbered 43 by them in July 2023.
I assume that January 2002 is when the Newbury Buses 6 (Newbury - Chieveley - Ilsleys - Harwell - Didcot) and 9 (Newbury - Hermitage - Compton - East Ilsley - Harwell - Didcot) were introduced under contract to West Berkshire. These were later chopped back to the West Berkshire boundary with peak extensions to Harwell, and then finally trimmed to West Berkshire only with the 9 being renumbered 6A.
