Hi Everyone! (apologies if this is the second time you're receiving
this, but I left many names off the first time around)
Here is a great one-time volunteer opportunity at a really powerful
local organization. The Boston Living Center (BLC) is "a non-profit
community and resource center whose mission is to foster the wellness
of all HIV positive people and respond to the changing needs of the
HIV/AIDS community. Through peer leadership and support, (they) strive
to enhance and enrich the lives of members by providing education,
treatment information, and support services with the goal of
empowering members to live productive lives and participate within
their families and communities."
Every year, BLC hosos a big Thanksgiving dinner for, called the
Celebration of Life Dinner, over 600 HIV+ people and their families on
the Tuesday before Thanksgiving. I have been in contact with BLC and
they are still looking for more volunteers to help on the day of the
event. I wanted to get an idea of how many people would be interested
in volunteering at this event. Once I have a ballpark figure, I can
get back in touch with them and let them know how much manpower we
will have, and they will assign us to a project. The volunteer
efforts start as early as 3:30pm and the event runs until 9 or 10pm,
but we would not necessarily be working through this whole window.
If you are interested, please write to me at
juli....@gmail.com by
the end of this week and let me know approximately what period of time
you are available for on Tuesday (11/25) afternoon. If you have
already read this email and written to me, no need to do so again!
After that I will be in touch with those who are interested with more
details!
I look forward to hearing from you!
~Juli

"The Celebration of Life Thanksgiving Dinner provides full
thanksgiving meals to over 600 HIV+ people and their families. As in
years past area celebrities, elected officials and a group of amazing
volunteers will act as servers. The evening will include
entertainment, speakers and of course dancing. All the festivities
will be hosted by BLC friend and supporter Liz Walker."
"Volunteer!
Ask around and you'll find that people just love volunteering at the
Celebration of Life Dinner. Whether you're a server, helping with set-
up, clean-up or serving drinks the experience is rewarding and fun for
everyone involved. You can volunteer as an individual or form a team
(through school, work, your place of worship, etc). Help is always
needed!"
