Round 3 ended with a flurry of last minute donations from both our team
and Princeton, but we're through to the Elite Eight! We've raised $3200
-- almost 650 nets! But this round, which ends May 9, may be the
toughest of the whole competition, so now is the time to get active. I
know the finals crunch is on, but take a study break and forward the
email pasted below this one to your friends and family.
We're against a team from New Jersey that has consistently raised
enough to purchase a few hundred nets each round, and are currently
number two in overall fundraising. They've been dormant so far this
round, but it seems likely that they are biding their time (we expect
to be hunched over the keyboard again next Friday . . . ) which means:
1) Donations received now will provide a cushion to help us fight our
way into the Final Four.
2) Our opponents will seek to beat us, which means your donation will
challenge our opponents to give more, effectively doubling the size of
all contributions.
You can remind other people of these facts too!
Keep pushing! (At least it's more fun than your finals!)

Hello,
I'm writing because I'm involved in a fundraiser /competition to fight
malaria and we would love it if you would join us in the fight. The
money raised will purchase insecticide treated bed nets to prevent
transmission of malaria, at a cost of $5 each.
Malaria sickens more than 300 million people and kills more than 1
million every year - most of them children in Africa. But lots can be
done, cheaply, to prevent it. One of the most cost-effective methods is
distributing bed nets for families to sleep under, which prevent bites
at night (the peak feeding time for the malaria-carrying Anopheles
mosquito). Five of your dollars (a venti cappuccino! less than a copy
of The Economist!) will buy a bed net that offers protection for up to
five years. This fundraiser is run by a non-profit called Malaria No
More, and our team site is www.madnessagainstmalaria.com/busphrotaract.
In addition to doing some good, this fundraiser is also a competition -
for the Malaria Cup -- which the Rotaract Club here at BU (I'm a
member) won last year and is trying to win again. It's tournament style
by two week periods (the team that buys the most nets each round
advances) , and we already made it through round 1 easily than pulled
out last minute battles in Rounds 2 and 3. More importantly, so far,
we've raised over $3200 -- that's 647 nets! But there are still lots
more nets to be bought - and we're now facing off against a team from
New Jersey that has consistently raised enough to purchase a few
hundred nets each round, and are currently number two in overall
fundraising. They've been dormant so far this round, but it seems
likely that they are biding their time.
1 net will help -- one half a net will help -- one fifth of a net
will help -- whatever you feel comfortable giving will help.
This is an awesome cause and has been a lot of fun for us. I hope
you'll join us. We win the malaria cup. A family in Africa wins some
protection from a devastating disease. You win a good feeling about
yourself. The only ones losing here are the mosquitoes.

Thank you very much for your support and your interest!
