Hi everyone,

Sorry, it's me again. I got another email about the debate I mentioned
at our general meeting. Please see below for details. It seems
interesting and relevant to our field, and the association is very
eager to get us involved.

2nd UPHA Meeting
Volunteer Service Trips: more harm than good?
www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=50928947399 Wednesday, February 4
5:00 pm - 6:00 pm
SAR 101

(To get to SAR 101, take the BU bus to the 2nd stop on the Charles
River Campus (in front of the School of Education, or the stop before
Marsh Chapel), take a right onto Comm Ave, go into Sargent
College(which is on the same block). )

As interest in global health has surged, more and more students are
breaking into the field by going on volunteer service trips. But is
this the best way to enter global health? And more substantially, can
it do more harm than good? Are participants exempt from moral blame
because of their intent in participating on the trip?

Please join the Undergraduate Public Heath Association (UPHA), the
Bioethics Society, Global Medical Brigades, the Undergraduate
Philosophy Association, and students from the School of Public Health
as we answer these questions and ultimately explore what
characteristics make up an ethical service abroad trip.
