Hope everyone is enjoying the first weeks of summer, wherever you are.
I'm writing to let you know that our hard work and strategizing have
paid off and the Beantown Skeeter Beater Repeater team is in the final
round of our efforts to win a second championship! We've also raised
over $6700 to purchase bed nets to prevent cases of malaria, and
rallied many of the BUSPH faculty and staff to our cause. We now have
just 10 days until the end of the final round - a champion will be
crowned June 20th. We are in the lead currently, but we've seen a
number of come from behind victories in the past. Plus, we need a real
team effort to reach our additional goal of purchasing 2000 nets. So
please take the time to copy, edit and send the message below to your
friends and family.
Best wishes,
Eva
Hello,
I'm writing because my team is in the final rounds of a competition to
fight malaria and we would love it if you would join us. Each team is
raising as much money as possible to purchase insecticide treated bed
nets to prevent transmission of malaria, at a cost of $5 each.
Malaria sickens more than 300 million people and kills more than 1
million every year - most of them children in Africa. But lots can be
done, cheaply, to prevent it. One of the most cost-effective methods is
distributing bed nets for families to sleep under, which prevent bites
at night (the peak feeding time for the malaria-carrying Anopheles
mosquito). Five of your dollars (a venti cappuccino! less than a copy
of The Economist!) will buy a bed net that offers protection for up to
five years. This fundraiser is run by a non-profit called Malaria No
More, and our team site is www.madnessagainstmalaria.com/busphrotaract.
In addition to doing some good, this fundraiser is also a competition
-for the Malaria Cup -- which the Rotaract Club here at BU (I'm a
member) won last year and is trying to win again. It's tournament style
(the team that buys the most nets each round
advances), and we have struggled and strategized our way into the final
round, and we're only 10 days away from clinching the championship.
Your gift will help us ensure victory and reach our goal of 2000 nets!
1 net will help -- one half a net will help -- one fifth of a net
will help -- whatever you feel comfortable giving will help.
This is an awesome cause and has been a lot of fun for us. I hope
you'll join us. We win the malaria cup. A family in Africa wins some
protection from a devastating disease. You win a good feeling about
yourself. The only ones losing here are the mosquitoes.
If I've convinced you, please go to

"Beantown Skeeter Beater Repeater." If I haven't convinced you, you
can email me and ask more questions.
Thank you very much for your support and your interest!
