Here are the candidates for tomorrow's elections and a short blurb regarding their candidacy:
As a person who values community and relationships, I believe I will be able to give back to the incoming students what I was able to receive from the current APALSA board members and others in the group. I am grateful for this group that stretches beyond its name of ethnicity, and would like to contribute in any way I can. I have attended all of the APALSA events except for the APALSA Conference due to religious obligations; but I am willing to learn everything about the event so that I may coordinate as smoothly as possible next year.
Thank you and I look forward to the elections this coming Thursday.
Chloe Kwon (also for both VP positions)
I would like to run for the President, the VP of Professional Development, and the VP of Alumni Relations(in the order of preference).
I have attended both Meet the Firms and the APALSA Conference. This year, I have cultivated meaningful relationships with other APALSA chapters in Boston area and decided to run for the position, with their support, in order to maintain and further extend the connections so that the BU APALSA can take on the leading position in the forefront. I have experience of working as the Committee Chair and the Administrator of the Product Committee at a company in the finance industry, organizing a monthly board meeting and presiding as a contact person. I am very responsible, organized, and get works done in a highly efficient way. Through this opportunity, I hope to contribute to the APALSA as a meaningful facilitator!
VP of Professional Development
Rama Attreya (for both VP positions and Public Relations Chair)
I am a perfect fit to serve as VP of Professional Development because I have the appropriate experience, skills, and personality for the job. I worked at a law firm before coming to law school, so I am familiar with how law firm recruitment teams, partners, and associates operate. I also know the level of professionalism that law firms expect. Additionally, I was Treasurer of my Mock Trial team during undergrad where I planned our team's budget and competitions while working closely with our coach and Pre-Law advisor. The skills I learned during Mock Trial will help me successfully perform my duties as VP of Professional Development. Furthermore, I attended and helped plan for Meet the Firms this year. Therefore, I witnessed the large amount of work this position entails. I know it requires someone who is organized, and pays careful attention to detail while also being efficient. I possess all of these skills. Lastly, my outgoing personality will help when I am contacting local firms to attend our event.
I am also well suited to serve as VP of Alumni Relations for the same reasons stated above. I attended APALSA Conference as well and assisted Jodie during the event. Thus, I know the level of work this position calls for too. It requires the same type of organized, efficient, and detail oriented person. I have these qualities that will enable me to successfully do the job. Moreover, my outgoing personality will help me effectively reach out to Alumni and 3Ls.
Lastly, I am well suited to serve as Public Relations Chair because my personality will allow me to effectively coordinate events for the APALSA community. Since I attended both Meet the Firms and APALSA Conference, I can help the VP of Professional Development and VP of Alumni Relations plan these events. Additionally, as a 1L this year, I know how important it has been for me to try to get involved in school activities while also managing my coursework. Sometimes I heard about events through multiple emails and conversations and this definitely helped ease the burden of having to make inquiries on my own. However, this was not always the case. As Public Relations Chair, I can use the same skills and experience I have already described above to ensure everyone knows about APALSA's events.
Juan Garay
My interests include Netflix (disappointed in season 3 of House of Cards), going to cultural events, cooking Hispanic food and traveling. I feel I am qualified and a good candidate because I can coordinate activities with LALSA (i'm one of the co-vp for next year); I was a president of a student organization at my undergrad and coordinated multiple events. I have attended many of APALSA's signature events this semester (Meet the Firms, the Inter-APALSA conference among others) and feel that I have been able to appreciate the goals of APALSA. Thank you.
Yuhang Li
My name is Yuhang Li and I'd love to run for VP Professional Development.
I am confident that I will be a great fit for this position because of my experiences of coordination and programming. As a community adviser in college, I was in charge of coordinating among departments such as Student Housing, Student Government, Dinning Services, Health Services, and various other outside organizations to create programming for the students in my community and enhance their on-campus experience.
Thank you for the consideration.
Treasurer
Maryanne Tomazic
I would like to run for Treasurer. I am committed to continuing the successful events APALSA has hosted this year and working with other members of the e-board to increase APALSA's profile in the Boston community. I have many years of extra-curricular and professional experience with budgeting, accounting and grant writing, and thus feel confident serving as APALSA's treasurer.
*We will also need to fill the positions of Secretary, Public Relations Chair, Community Service Chair and Mentorship Chair. You are free to nominate yourself at the meeting.
See you all the the Elections/Meeting tomorrow at 1pm in Room 214.
Thank You,
APALSA
