The Legal Advocacy Program (LAP) of the Asian Task Force Against Domestic Violence (ATASK) currently seeks law school students who are pursuing apart-time legal internship, and have a demonstrated interest in public interest and immigrant rights work.

ATASK’s LAP offers victims and survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault holistic legal assistance in immigration, divorce, child custody and support, abuse prevention, tenant rights, and public benefits matters.  Through legal advocacy, counseling and representation, the ATASK Legal Advocacy Program focuses on enforcing the legal and human rights of immigrants to live free from violence and oppression.

Students will have the opportunity to participate in the following:

•             Conduct client intakes and interviews

•             Conduct factual and legal research

•             Draft complaints, pleadings, and affidavits

•             Draft legal memos and/or briefs

•             Develop and present legal trainings or workshops to domestic violence advocates

Students will receive detailed feedback on their legal work product and engage in thoughtful discussions with their supervisor on relevant legal principles and policy.

Students will be supervised and mentored by the LAP Program Attorney, Simone Bui.  Simone has spent the past 15 years working with immigrant victims in the areas of immigration, family, abuse prevention and poverty law.  She has supervised and mentored law students and students of other academic disciplines on legal issues.

If you are interested, please send in your resume and cover letter to Chantal Choi, cha...@atask.org.
