Description:
The client seeks a COBOL developer to support business needs. The programmer must have extensive experience developing the COBOL/CICS language.
Maintains and supports the integrity of a variety of operating system environments (i.e.. Windows, Linux, etc.) and various computer systems.
Duties include the following: administer, install, and troubleshoot issues; perform system maintenance tasks such as system back-up, recovery and file maintenance.; schedule, install, and test system software upgrades; configure software and resolve technical problems; monitor and maintain software licensing and maintenance agreements.
Required Skills:
• Extensive experience in read and write COBOL programs.
• Experience in reading and writing JCL.
• Expertise in how to navigate around in TSO and how to use its various functionalities.
• Must know the basics for using Microsoft Word and Excel.
• Knowledge of Outlook is helpful.
• Knowledge of the ChangeMan source handling software is very helpful.
• Knowledge of VSAM file processing is very helpful. Knowledge of File-Aid is very helpful.
• Works on high-visibility, or mission critical aspects of a given program, and performs all functional duties independently.
• Oversees the efforts of direct reporting resources and/or be responsible for the efforts of all staff assigned to a specific job.
Required Qualifications:
• 10+ years’ expensive experience developing/programming in COBOL/CICS.
• Experience with the following:
o JCL/PROCS
o IMS DB
o UTILITIES – IBM/others (SORT, IEBGENER, etc.)
o Control statements
o File structures:
VSAM
DB2
ORACLE
o TSO/SPF
o Debug skills – ABEND-AID (or others)
o SQL, PL/SQL
Preferred Qualifications:
• Web Services experience
• Strong written and verbal communication
• Proven ability to work independently and as a team member
• Software Development Lifecycle experience (Waterfall or Agile)
Education Requirements:
• A minimum of thirteen (13) to twenty (20) years’ relevant experience.
• A degree from an accredited College/University in the applicable field of services is preferred. four additional years of relevant experience in lieu of a college degree is required. If the individual’s degree is not in the applicable field then four additional years of related experience is required.
Additional Provisions:
• Pass both a client mandated clearance process to include drug screening, criminal history check and credit check.
• All candidates must be a US Citizen or have permanent residence status (Green Card).
• Candidates must have lived in the United States for the past 5 years.
• Cannot have more than 6 months travel outside the United States within the last five years. Military Service excluded. (Exception does not include military family members.)
• All overtime must be pre-approved in writing by the client manager or his/her designated representative.
• Agency will not be reimbursed for overtime charges without previous written authorization. Authorized overtime will be reimbursed at straight time.
• The enforced dress code is business casual, i.e. collared shirt with slacks for men, no skirts above the knee for women.
Place and Period of Performance
• Hours of support:
o The standard work week for contract staff will be 5 days a week and 8 hours per day.
o Contract staff may be required to travel to support business efforts.
