Job Title: Senior Platform Engineer

End Client: Mastercard

Location: O'Fallon, Missouri (Main Campus)

Employment Type: Contract (C2C)

Duration: 24 Months

Work Schedule: Hybrid / Onsite (As per client policy)

Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced Senior Platform Engineer to join the Big Data Engineering team supporting Mastercard’s enterprise Big Data environments. This is a Big Data Platform / Infrastructure-focused role requiring strong expertise in Hadoop ecosystems, Linux administration, and programming, with a strong preference for Java.

The selected candidate will act as a subject matter expert (SME), contributing to platform modernization initiatives, infrastructure deployments, and mission-critical system support.

Key Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with application and development teams to understand requirements and provide accurate estimates.

  • Provide 24x7 operational support for mission-critical Big Data environments.

  • Design, implement, and support Big Data platform solutions.

  • Troubleshoot complex platform, infrastructure, and performance issues.

  • Create and maintain technical documentation and best practices.

  • Evaluate and integrate new technologies into existing environments.

  • Work closely with managed services teams and operational stakeholders.

  • Educate peers and cross-train teammates on Big Data technologies.

  • Support platform reliability, scalability, and performance initiatives.

Required Technical Skills (Top 3)

1️⃣ Hadoop / Big Data Platforms

  • Strong knowledge of Hadoop ecosystems

  • Experience with distributed data processing technologies

  • Experience supporting mission-critical Big Data environments

2️⃣ Linux / UNIX Administration

Advanced Linux expertise is REQUIRED

✔ Shell scripting
✔ System debugging
✔ Performance troubleshooting
✔ Comfortable navigating Linux environments

3️⃣ Programming

✔ Proficiency in at least one programming language
✔ Strong preference for Java ✅

If not Java:

✔ Strong expertise in another language
✔ Ability to quickly learn new technologies

Bonus:

  • Automation / Infrastructure tooling experience

  • Infrastructure management scripting

Required Experience

  • Experience supporting Big Data / Distributed Systems

  • Strong troubleshooting & problem-solving skills

  • Experience working in enterprise-scale environments

  • Experience delivering mission-critical projects

  • Strong system-level debugging skills

  • Basic SQL knowledge

Nice-to-Have / Preferred Skills

  • Kubernetes

  • Automation Tools:
    ✔ Ansible
    ✔ Chef

  • ETL / Data Pipelines

  • Network Engineering Fundamentals

  • Cloud / Platform Modernization Exposure
