Last year Brea started the BOS Blog which consisted mostly of
interviews with registered artists. People really enjoyed this and I
think we should do it again this year. I contacted Brea and she said
she can contribute a little though she is super busy but we should
open it up to other writers and try to get as much info on there as
possible.

So... Laura, can you announce that we are looking for longer-form
bloggers/writers this at the next meeting (I won't be there), and in
the next email blast? Once registration starts we can contact
registered artists to see if they want to be featured (unfortunately
there's no truly democratic way to do this, but since registration is
so slow at the beginning, this can be like a reward for people who do
it early)

Lastly, last year the blog was hosted by blogger, not wordpress. This
year I think we should do it on wordpress, and it should either be
part of the website or at least link from it and be similar in design.
I'm sure I could figure out how to set up a simple wordpress blog but
if there's a way to do it on the website and its not too much of a
hassle, let me know.

There's definitely a way to do this through the website -- and the longer-form blog can integrate the media bloggers that I'm lining up to do live video and photographs. The photos will be stored on Vimeo, and the photos on Flickr, but if we can get some writing to go along with them, we could post them to the wordpress blog.

The question is whether or not people will need accounts in order to use the blog -- the answer is probably yes; if so, LB, is this something we could link through Dan's existing make-an-account-to-register structure?

I'm happy to contribute reporting to the blog, and if it helps, take over the editorial/posting responsibilities.  (I edit the blog for a lit mag in Park Slope, and am totally comfortable with both WordPress and XHTML)

I would love to meet with you about that -- we're definitely looking for someone who can head up blogging efforts. Unfortunately, I won't be at tonight's BOS meeting. Is there a time this week that we could sit down to talk?

Cheers,
Chloe

This all sounds great... we should discuss at the web meeting on
Tuesday. I don't think it'll be integrated with account creation,
plus that's going to be a little more opaque to the user than we
initially thought anyway. But, I think we can probably wrangle the
blog on the main site to allow for separate streams and types of posts
that show up in different sections of the site - so, we could have
regular AIB organizational blogging and artist profile blogging and
live-blogger blogging and whatever in separate streams.

Alex - any interest in coordinating the blogging? :) Ali, would you
still want this stuff to be part of press?

Laura, I'm happy to take over the online coordination.  I'm sure there's folks already signed on, and I know a few other folks with fine arts writing backgrounds; if I'm really lucky/good, I can get them to steer clear of lapsing into Gallerese ("...strives to establish a dialogue...").

Awesome!!! Let's discuss tonight, and maybe talk with Chloe another
time soon (since she has been coordinating the live-blogging).

Would love to coordinate a meeting with you after I speak with Ben Berlin next Monday afternoon -- he may or may not be running live video blogging. Let's talk next Monday & beyond? And email in the meantime.

Laura,

I got the files. It is amazing how few original documents there are. It is pretty much jpgs and pdfs. I may need more copy than I thought depending on how easy it is to extract from these files.

I will not be at the meeting tonight so we will have to touch base tomorrow. Let me know when you get the logos and stuff for this year and I will get started.

I know... There's more original stuff from before jan09, since that's
when Laura archived everything. The other stuff I basically compiled
from the old website and other things I had around.

Tara is sending copy for the sponsorship form hopefully tonight, seems
like we'll need to work from the PDF of last year's BOS sponsor
form. ::sigh::

We are meeting with jeff (the new designer) tomorrow morning, will
fill you in after that meeting. Hopefully he will have the branding
concept and initial assets ready to go.

Alex I am very happy for you or whomever else to take over the running of the blog (it doesn't have to be run through press at all, and its not like I had actually done anything about it yet).

It'd be really really great if the blog writers conducted non-generic
interviews with artists by going on studio visits with participating
artists leading up to the BOS10 weekend. This way blog readers could
get to know a multitude of artists BEFORE they visit their studios.

Maybe participating artists could visit other participating artists
and report from their visits. I'd be willing to do this a couple of
times and I'd be willing to receive a writer most definitely. I'm
sure other artists would too.

I had a pleasurable experience in being interviewed by Brea last year,
it'd be great to really expand on what she started.

All the best,
Matt

Hey Chloe, any word on the new blog?  There were a couple people very interested in writing for it at the last meeting; all that's needed is a home!

Hi Alex,

Our new website won't be launching for a bit -- but before we launch it, you and I and perhaps Laura and anyone else who wants to be there should sit down and talk about when the blogging's going to start, etc.

Could we do that towards the end of the week/over the weekend?

Alex - I think the idea will be to post it on the blog on our new
website, which will be launched on 4/12! So, I'd say start organizing
with that in mind. :) In terms of identifying interview subjects -
we can probably start outputting the BOS registrants who have
expressed interest within a few days of launching registration, and
there are definitely at least a few folks who have already reached out
about this. Let's talk details at tonight's meeting - will you be
here?
