We screwed the shelving down to the supports so it wouldn't slide off en route...
Anybody have a cordless screwdriver on playa upon truck arrival, so we can take em off again?

Good point. I won't have one. Maybe Blake or Beaker.
Manual screwdrivers will be available for those who are desperate/
obsessed/persevering.
Therapy will be available for those who wish to become desperate/
obsessed/persevering.
Worst case is the shelves don't get removed until Thursday when the
AutoSub early crew arrives.

I have a cordless drill that I can bring in my luggage if it's helpful.

When are you arriving on the playa?
If you get there before Thursday (8/26) afternoon, it may be very
helpful.
Otherwise, it will most likely be redundant & moot.
Either way, thanks for offering.

Mines on the truck - putting one in checked luggage or picking it up in Reno at Home Depot seem to be viable options.  Talking to Peter Durand to see if there is any funds available for one is a consideration if it is a necessity.

If you're arriving early enough for it to help (i.e. Wednesday or
early Thursday), then your stuff should have been packed near the door
end of the container. Is there some reason to expect that removing
shelves will be required in order to access the box containing your
cordless drill?

BTW, let's remember that the shelves were screwed in using mostly
heavy-duty professional screw guns. Small consumer-grade cordless
drills may not have sufficient torque to loosen some of those screws.

I suspect that my box is fairly well past Blakes things, up high.  If you absolutely need to get to it and are willing to dig for it, Grey Rubbermaid container with yellow duct tape tag - not sure if it ended up in truck 1 or 2

Radical asking of favors may be required otherwise, but am sure things will get sorted, as they always do.

*I* personally won't need it (all my stuff is accessible without shelf
removal) and *nobody* will be digging for or opening your boxes except
yourself. I only mentioned the possibility because I thought it might
be easier *for you* than bringing one on the plane or buying one in
Reno.

You may be trying to solve a non-problem. Is there anyone arriving
*Wednesday* who is concerned that shelf removal will be required to
access their stuff? The shelves will magically disappear on Thursday.

My apologies to Kenneth, Seth, and anybody else who may have been
confused by what I wrote previously. I wasn't paying attention, and
somehow thought that Kenneth's posts were from Seth (i.e. replies to
questions I asked Seth). I guess I still haven't recovered from SPACE
MADNESS. Sigh...

Liz,
are you talking about the 16 shelves that we built for the containers?

Or something different?

Cause those shelves stay in place for the duration of BM. Or at least they did the 2 years I went.

Blake screwed in the upper shelving group above his art car, so those will have to be worked around for people taking stuff off of the container that it is in.

Yes, the fog of space madness should be lifting just in time to head over to Logan to fly out to the playa  . . .

I get on the playa Wednesday the 25th so I will pack the drill.

I have two cordless screwdrivers with reasonably well charged
batteries towards the back of truck #2, although we'll likely have to
do some digging to get to them.

The shelf above Blake's art car cannot be "worked around" - there are
huge items behind it which will be impossible to remove with that
shelf in place. So that shelf MUST be unscrewed, although it can
probably wait until Thursday (when more people and screw guns will be
available). The other "official" shelves can stay in place, which is
the way we've done it for the last few years.
