All,

I had originally agreed to meet the trucks on the playa and send them back to Boston on 9/7. However, for a number of reasons, my travel plans changed and I can't be there to see them off. Is there anyone that can volunteer to meet the trucks, on the playa after burningman and send them on their way back to Boston? It would be awesome if we could get a back up too.

Hey Noah,

I'll be on the playa until the evening of 9/7. What would you need me
to do exactly?

Thats a good question. Honestly, I've never done it before. Could someone on the list give a good description of how we get the containers picked up?

John Payne and Scout did it last year, but AutoSub should have the most experience with what goes into meeting the tractors on the playa.

As a representative/camp-member of AutoSub:

I lead the playa load-in last year (and I still have nightmares!!) and after sunset on Monday I handed off the keys to John Payne.  I am unaware of what happened beyond that point.  I know the drivers were to show up in the early morning Tuesday to pick up the containers, however I don't know what that procedure consisted of.

Yes, I recall _FiG's bought of Space/Madness, and it is haunting since I had a bit of it myself spending 45 minutes trying to organize loosely packed goods on Tuesday morning before being informed that everyone stuff had already been in there.  On the other hand, that mindset was instilled by hearing stories of previous years when the containers were Burner stuffed sausage skins.

The main thing thing I observed on Tuesday morning is that you have to wait for the truck and lock it up when the trailer arrives, if not sooner, with the greatest liability being someone not being timely with their load in, though camps should be completely packed and on the truck by Monday evening anyway.

In the past, have people had a particular strategy for packing things out earlier in the week?  I know that Steambath has started breaking down on Sunday rather than Monday since it is a further distance from the containers, and a few Boston Burners had difficulty with finding the containers cross playa when the Man is down and the street signs pilfered for souvenirs.

Would it be useful to have some sort of PVC pipe flag pole and a banner of some sort?   May not make much sense during the event, but late on both Mondays of opening and closing of the event, I knew that I had a hard time finding my way there, though I did find it eventually.

All,

We still haven't had someone step up to say they (one person or a
few!) will lead truck load on the Playa. We've all seen the trucks and
we all loaded them once. Is there anyone out there that will throw
their name in the ring to lead this?

Sure, I can throw my name in.

Also, regarding Flambeau's suggestion of some sort of beacon to help
far-flung loaders find the trucks: I think we can find a way to make
a flagpole out of the all-purpose tensegrity struts that are
(hopefully) forming the Autosub DJ booth.
