This call invites expressions of interest including papers (ranging from empirics to theoretical framing), panels (focused on critique and experience) as well as informal meet-ups at AAG or Burning Man. The goal is a critical assessment of Burning Man including (but not limited to) its urban geographies and city planning, ritual practices and everyday life, role in the tech economy, contribution to libertarian exit imaginaries, issues of diversity and exclusion, festival cultures and economies, engagement with indigenous land and settler colonialism, implications for political ecology and climate change, and its local and translocal proliferation through regional events.
