Show of hands: who's going to Black Rock City this year? Any interest in a meetup? There are 700+ people on this list - some of you must be planning to get dusty. Or muddy, as the case may be.

I'll be there - it would be fun to have a meetup, agreed

I’ll be attending! I want to connect with other social scientists and filmmakers specifically.

If I go I’ll try to make it like I always do, but probably won’t make it, like I always don’t!

I hit me up anyone who wants to build a fusion reactor.

For those who want to go and camp out on the land a bit ahead of time, the Native Solidarity Project (we're a Burners Without Borders affiliate project) is hosting a camp-out get-together in mid-late July to invite folks to spend time stewarding the land, learning some of the oral history of the area, the plants, & peoples. It's gorgeous terrain on the way to the playa, with a sacred spring that is gushing out over what used to an alfalfa field/ horse ranch, hence the Ranch part of Potato Patch Ranch. It's a Paiute family group-run project. (I am but the messenger). If interested in getting involved, contact info is at the bottom of this email. Come sleep under the stars next to this babbling spring!

Camp Volunteer Event:

~Stewardship at Potato Patch Ranch~

What: Join us for a variety of land stewardship projects at a historic and beautiful part of the Pyramid Lake Paiute Reservation, just off 447 between Nixon and Gerlach.

A team of local Paiute elders is preparing an outdoor classroom in a part of the reservation called Potato Patch Ranch. Tribal members Randy Burns and Elaine Duncan aim to create hands-on educational programs at Potato Patch to pass on knowledge about traditional uses of native plants for food, smudging, shelter, clothing, baskets, twine, medicinal teas and topical salves to local Paiute / Shoshone / Washoe youth.

Together we are preparing the land to host future school field trips, outdoor nature-based workshops, afternoon classes and weekend seminars about traditional practices on site.

Work projects include...

- Surveying the existing landscape & creating a plant inventory map

- Repairing fencing to keep out grazing animals

- Pruning Fruit Trees & Raspberry Bushes

- Evaluating the existing natural gravity irrigation

- Removing non-functional legacy farm equipment

- Preparing Outdoor Classroom for future educational events

Wear: Summer Work & Chilling Clothes, Boots, Wide Brimmed Hats, Work Gloves, Sunscreen

Bring: Water, Picnic Items to Share, Garden/ Landscaping Tools (some provided)

Location: Weather permitting, Potato Patch Ranch is accessible via NV-447 overlooking Winnemucca Lake about halfway between Nixon and Gerlach.  RSVP for exact address + directions.

For more information contact the Project Lead Elaine Duncan (Wadsworth) at 775-276-8956 or Kitten Calfee (San Francisco).
