Greetings Soiree folk,
I haven't seen much activity here for a few months but thought it appropriate to invite you all to celebrate a local center for promoting dialogue and education of all things green right here in Oakland. Lets consider having another Burn Green Soiree here soon. But until then, y'all should come out this Saturday and celebrate the 2 year anniversary of PLACE for Sustainable Living here in Oakland. Since 2011, a crew of urban agriculture enthusiasts, permaculturalists, appropriate technologists, bike mechanics, electric bike folk and community based artists on this educational center for teaching sustainable city living strategies. (http://aplaceforsustainableliving.org/) We are excited to have made it to this 2 year mark and have big ideas about transforming neighborhoods into food forests and more livable environments. Come check out what its all about if you have not had a chance to make it here already.

¤ THEE HOBO GOBBELINS
From deep within the confines of the city sewers, and the darkness beneath your bed, Thee Hobo Gobbellins slash and jangle their path into your skull. They weave a wickedly catchy mixture of ancient pirate curses, orcish vaudeville, and eldritch hobo semaphore. The Hobo Gobbelins emerge from the pulsing art vortex of Oakland, Ca., the green-skinned child of punk rock, avant-garde performance art and hobo soul. Drawing on a dizzying array of influences, the band incorporates traditional sounds of Americana and the Old World with the horrors of modernity. Monsters from folklore and fiction wriggle alongside freight-train spirituals and drinking songs. The result is a disturbing haunted house for the ear, a nightmare carnival that is at turns goofy and murderous. Human audiences drink more, dance better, and writhe uncontrollably to goblin beatings- er, beats. Incidentally, audience is the goblin word for “food that screams”.

¤ THE CHERRY PICKERS are a new band on the acoustic music scene. The band features some of the hottest young players on the west coast and plans to make waves. Attempting to merge traditional bluegrass and more progressive styles can often times leave room for imagination but this band seeks to honor both tradition and explore more modern acoustic soundscapes with conviction and skill. Forming through bluegrass festivals and picking parties the cherry pickers have been friends since the beginning, all with a mutual love for the music and performing it. Although none of them past theirs early 30s their combined experience in the music industry is decades. Members have performed regionally and nationally with bands like the Bucky Walter and Windy Hill, the Dead Horse Sting Band, placed and competed in regional and national competitions, put out records and produced events. The Cherry Picker's will provide an entertaining show good for dancing or sitting back and enjoying
