Hi Burlington BREW members,

I hope you're all having a great week.  I'd like to share with you two recent invites the BREW group has received:

1) My friend David Mitchell (of the Intervale's Fat Mitchell's Pumpkin Patch) is regularly brewing all grain batches on Sundays and has invited anyone who'd like to attend.  See some more info from his Facebook post to the BREW list below.

David Mitchell hey burlington brewers. we brew all grain batches of high gravity beer every Sunday at our home in Winooski. We're also looking to meet new people. All are welcome to attend. like West Street Brewery [on Facebook] or vist www.weststreetbrewery.weebly.com to look at our creations and to see whats coming up next. See you then.

2) The Burlington Permaculture group, who hosts/supports great events around the Burlington area is interested in supporting an intro to Homebrewing workshop.  Would anyone in the group be interested in teaching a 1/2 day or full day workshop on brewing?  I'm thinking of some of our regular brewers: Matt, Dave, Mark, Brian, Kevlar?  This invite is open to all.  Feel free to let me know individually or write to the group if you're interested in hosting/teaching a workshop.  Burlington Permaculture may be able to find a host location if you want to teach it but can't host it.

Also, if you aren't already a fan of the BREW group on Facebook, please click here and "like" it so you'll see messages on fb too!

And, finally, if anyone would like to host the November group please speak up.  Likely the third week of November makes the most sense - the week before Thanksgiving.  We'll keep you posted if anything is able to happen at Flatbread but at the moment we haven't been able to confirm anything with them...

Thanks,
Melissa

Hey Melissa,

I'd be thrilled to teach or help teach a brewing workshop if needed.  While I love teaching math, it would be sweet to combine my job with my true love....brewing!  I'd be happy to do it solo or in a support role, half-day, or full-day, whatever.  It wouldn't be a good idea for me to host (being out of town and all) but I'd be cool with bringing my gear in to town.  Depending on whose attending and teaching, I could envision a number of scenarios involving extract brewing, partial mash, and even all-grain [it would be cool to start with a grain sack and finish with a brew] if we did a full day session.  In long-winded conclusion, I enjoy teaching and would be  happy to help in any capacity.

Keep me posted!

Matt

I'm game to teach for sure.  This Saturday is actually AHA's teach a friend to brew day, or whatever they changed the name of the event to.  I'll brewing an all grain batch of Belgian strong dark ale for Christmas, if anyone would like to see or help out.

Thanks, Matt and Brian, for your offers!  Perhaps it could be a team effort with the two of you hosting/teaching?  The Permaculture folks want to know if Dec 11th or 18th would work?  Brian, would you be able to host?   I can put you two in touch with them directly to create a description of the workshop.

Brian, Saturday sounds great - I hope to join in.  What time?

Thanks,
Melissa

Teaming up sounds good to me and I am free both of those days if you need me.

So yeah, keep me posted down the road.

I can do either of those days... as far as hosting, I'm not sure I feel comfortable hosting at my house.  Here's an idea that I'll look into.  My friend Suzy is a chiropractor and gives talks monthly at Healthy Living.  I know they have cooking classes there... I'm wondering if we could have it there.

As for this Saturday, I'll get started in the AM like 8 or 9, and will probably start the boil around noon.  Last year I hosted a brew for this event and had lots of interest and had lots of brewing stuff out for view: magazines, books, ingredients, software on my laptop, etc.  Please bring whatever you'd like to share and invite any people interested in learning how to brew!  Try to give me a heads up if you're coming, when you're coming, and how many peeps will be with you!

Brian
