Hi, Vince,
Thank you for the update.
You and other allies on the City Council are my heroes for grasping the significance of this issue, especially in its historical context! I believe that the relentless and intensifying pressure can be a factor in our favor. Please remember that the issue extends well beyond July 29, and must include police overreach in general. That's why it's so important to reconvene the Public Safety Subcommittee. Let's not forget that Bram Kranichfeld reached the same conclusion.
Congratulations and thanks again to everyone who's worked so hard on this.
Sincerely,
Bill
Bill,Just passing on this resolution to you to inform you we will be taking this matter up on Monday, October 29th 2012. I know it will be exactly three months after the incident but sometimes the wheels of justice move slow. I will be working the phones with my colleagues starting tomorrow after they receive their packets. I'm hopeful we can prevail to protect all of our rights.Vince
The storm is really gonna hurt turnout...I think it's forecast to be peaking Monday evening. Can this be postponed somehow? On Fri, Oct 26, 2012 at 4:17 PM, Jonathan Leavitt <jonathan....@gmail.com> wrote:
Here's a couple more resources to help rally folks for Monday:A facebook event to share, invite your friends to, post on your friends walls asking if they can make it, etcA petition (240+ signatures thus far!)Let's all of us together make this happen!JOn Fri, Oct 26, 2012 at 4:07 PM, rachel siegel <rache...@gmail.com> wrote:
getting people to call councilors is a great idea.
vince was telling me about the rave that got out of control and 15 arrests were made at it (i was out of town). it is odd that a late night crowd of partiers were "arrestable" but a handful of protesters were "not." the content of the situation might be at play. it could help us pass the resolution to point this out to other councilors -- is there extra pressure on the powers that be to come down hard on environmental activists who are trying to keep out big business oil?
don't quote me - i'm not being very articulate. but probably you get my point.

Hi friends,Thanks for passing this along. I'm wondering what folks are willing to do to help pass this great piece of legislation. Can Councilors and everyone on this list work a simple majority of councilors to vote in favor of this common sense piece of legislation? Contact info for all the Councilors can be found here: http://www.burlingtonvt.gov/CityCouncil/City-Councilors/ This is no small task given the current political makeup of the council, and will require all of us to recruit people to slam the remaining councilors with calls from their wards in the next three days. Are folks willing to work toward that end and to turn people out on Monday night?Best,J
Hey Genese, et al,
I don't pretend to know the answer for this.
Stepping back and awaiting instructions.
Good night to you all.
Bill
Hey All,
Not to be too much of a sissy, but the weather warnings are looking rather extreme. Is it possible to encourage the city council to postpone the meeting until next week? This would give us time to lobby the other councilors and also would help us get more people to a meeting. What is the protocol on postponing meetings? Goodnight, Genese
Just got word from president shannon that the mtg is canceled tonight and will be rescheduled for november 7 or 8. Vince
