This seems like something that might be of interest to Burlington GA Direct Action folks.
*Not another Task Force. Not Another Study Committee. Not Another Press Conference.*
--Calling all Burlington residents who are appalled by the actions of the Burlington Police Department in response to civil disobedience during the Governors' Conference--
Is this the sort of precedent we want to set for future police responses to dissent in our city?
Is dispersing non-violent protesters really cause for the use of violent force by armored, militarized police?
Why have the mayor and BPD been spreading falsehoods and back-peddling with regard to their description of the events that transpired that day?
To what extent were outside agencies such as the Joint Terrorism Task Force, Homeland Security, State Police and FBI involved in the security and chain-of-command during the event?
Do we really want to live in a city where police feel empowered to open fire in a public space with "less-than-lethal" weaponry any time they choose?
What is the function of a police force in a city like Burlington?
What are some ways we can build alternatives to the militarized police apparatus in our communities in a way that promotes safety, solidarity and well-being of all?
