President Obamas visit to Burlington next week is going to cause some

of Vermont for a noontime rally and fundraiser. The building can hold up
to 5,000 people, though its capacity for the presidential visit will
depend on how the campaign sets up the room, UVM officials have said.

Obama is expected to arrive at Burlington International Airport in South
Burlington on Air Force One, then travel by motorcade west to UVM and
the multipurpose building, which is in the athletic complex south of
Main Street and west of Spear Street.

The South Burlington Police Department is working with the United
States Secret Service, Vermont State Police, University of Vermont
Police, and Burlington Police Department, to plan and prepare for the
visit of President Barack Obama, South Burlington police wrote in a
statement Tuesday. The planning for this event has been extensive, with
a focus on both the Presidents and the publics safety and security
during the visit.

The statement continued, We are committed to utilizing traffic control
measures that minimize the impact upon commuters while still maintaining
the safety of the President as well as the communities involved.

But, authorities added, there still will be an impact, including
temporary road closures and redirections of traffic on:

 Williston Road.

Interstate 89 in the area of exit 14.

The Spear Street/East Avenue intersection with Main Street.

These temporary actions may delay traffic and will likely radiate
beyond this area to other roadways, police said. While the highways
will only be closed intermittently during this event, backups may occur.
It is highly recommended that alternate routes be planned and extra time
allowed for travel on this date.

The Obama event is scheduled to include a performance

by local rocker Grace Potter and The Nocturnals. Tickets cost $44 to
$7,500, though the two lowest-price levels $44 and $100 have been
sold out for weeks. More information is available at

Obamas visit will mark the first by a sitting president to Burlington
since Bill Clinton traveled here in 1995.

By our best guestimate, the Spear st and williston rd intersection is still our best protest site.  We can still arrive on foot from Staples plaza, a couple of blocks away.

Please to suggest any desirable alternative.

This needs to be spoken of in a secure environment. All planning should
go offline.

There has not been a single aspect of our intentions that has been kept under wraps. AFAIK.

It's all been out in the open.  That is, unless I've been left out of the loop.

So, unless I'm informed otherwise by consensus, I'd prefer to continue like that.

Then I would suggest we discuss this at a Direct Action meeting.
