Hmm, interesting and nice to see this kind of thing happening in Burlington however I'd recommend reading their terms carefully because I'm not comfortable with them.

Participant acknowledges and agrees that all Subject Ideas and Inventions (and all rights therein) belong to and shall be the sole and exclusive property of MyWebGrocer. Participant agrees to assign to MyWebGrocer, without further consideration, Participant’s entire right, title and interest in and to each and every such Subject Idea and Invention.

Neat business idea though, if they get 100 participants that work an average of 10 hours, they get 1000 man hours of programming/brainstorming work for about $10/hr.

Personally, I would be much more interested in a project that doesn't just benefit a business.  Is there any interest in putting together a Crisis Camp, or something similar?  CrisisCommons.org organizes projects in response to global needs.  Generally it's some kind emergency; they've been doing work for the Haiti Earthquake and the Japanese Tsunami.  They've put together the Common Gazetteer Search that runs phonetic place-name searches and have collaborated on the Haiti Health Map.  Other projects have tried to break down language barriers and create faster ways to distribute data to end users.

I haven't worked with crisis camp before, but my understanding is that a local chapter can make periodic contributions at their own speed.  When an emergency arises, members can come together and pound out code to assist recovery efforts.

Emergency personal on the ground are often frustrated at a lack of appropriate technology.  I would love to be able to provide some meaningful assistance beyond texting in $5 to a group.  This kind of thing is a nice bridge between the two.    Would anybody like to do something like this?

Micah

Micah,

I think that's a good idea. You may want to get in touch with
Burlington Web Application Group (http://btvwag.org/) as they had
discussed something similar.

Thanks,
Bradley
