Elmedia Player is a multimedia player for Mac that supports an enormous amount of formats, among them FLV, SWF, XAP (Silverlight), AVI, MOV, MP4, and DAT, enabling you to enjoy any video without needing to download tons of different programs to do so.

I'm new to macs, so please bear with me. I've never installed elmedia player, so I don't know why it's mentioned in the crash logs. That's why I was wondering if it may have been installed as part of another program. Also, I didn't have any of the files you listed above, to be deleted.

That's odd. Only thing that stands out to me in your crash-log is that your crash was related to a 'WebProcess', whereas mine was a 'kernal_task'. I suppose it's possible that something else you use includes the Elmedia player, but nothing that I've seen before. If you're stuck, I'd suggest two more options:

Yeah, I was just surfing the web when that crash occurred. I have several other logs that show itunes, kernal task, etc. but I think elmedia is usually shown as the kernal extensions in backtrace. I thought this was the same thing as the rest of MBP users that are crashing after upgrading to Lion, but their problem seems to be related to a video driver issue.

Yep, most of my crashes occured while browsing the web as well (on Safari, Chrome or Firefox). Websites with audio or video trigger the Elmedia player. Next to a virus, the Elmedia player is pretty much the most intrusive junk-ware I've ever experienced.

Somehow, the attackers managed to build a signed wrapper around the legitimate media player which resulted in Proton being bundled along with it. Indeed, researchers say they observed the signing of the wrappers, all of which occurred with the same Apple Developer ID.

The faster your Mac, the better because the decoding complexity of a typical H.266 file is about twice that of H.265. Elmedia Player runs natively on Apple silicon Macs and is one of the fastest media players out there.

Multitasking with Elmedia Player is a breeze. Use picture-in-picture to enjoy your video content while you take care of other tasks. The player also has full screen mode. Alternatively, you can also pin your playback on top of other windows with the handy Float on Top feature.

Even in Windows playing HDR / DV video files with software players, (not streaming from Plex) was dicey. The only solution that seemed to work and trigger different modes on (whichever 4k) display was MPC-BE along with madVR plug in. With mad VR plug in

Mac users who recently downloaded Elmedia Player onto their devices may have unwittingly exposed their system details, cryptocurrency wallets, and password data, after it emerged hackers had injected malware into the popular freeware video player.

Downloads of Folx and Elmedia player were infected with Proton, a Remote Access Trojan, after Eltima's servers were hacked. The Proton backdoor lets attackers access browser information, keylogs, usernames, passwords, macOS keychain data, and more.

Elmedia Player is a high-quality media player application that is designed specifically for Mac systems. The design of the app is intuitive and the UI is aesthetically pleasing. The price is comparable to other apps in this category and there are many different controls the user has over their media library. While the app itself is easy to use, there are many different paths online to get to the app and there are two different versions of the same app in the App Store. This gets confusing for someone attempting to find the app by searching.

Cisdem Video Player is a media player with a free option that can play almost any video file type on your Mac, including some types that are usually exclusive to Windows computers. Cisdem supports HD videos as well as 4K, 5K, and even 8K files, making it a versatile entry on this list. Its interface is simple and easy to navigate as well.

The paid version of DivX removes ads and adds more options for video formats, but it does cost $19.99, making it less appealing than the free options on this list. However, the free edition is still a good video player for your Mac.

GOM also features an audio mixer, the ability to create a playlist, and other basic video control options you would expect to see in a video player. The free version of GOM does occasionally display ads, but users can purchase the Pro version of GOM for $15; this Pro version also includes a redesign that is more user-friendly.

Wondershare Filmora is a bit of a departure from other video players on this list in that it combines video playing with video editing. This is because Wondershare Filmora is, first and foremost, a video-editing app, complete with features like transitions, stock footage, audio separation, and more to keep you busy.

Movist is a lightweight video player made specifically for Mac computers. It has all of the features you would hope for in a basic video player: support for different video file types, plenty of video-viewing options, and a clear presentation of videos when playing them. Movist also uses transparency to hide the bulk of its controls unless your mouse is close to them, making its interface appear minimal most of the time.

As you can see, there are tons of choices, both free and paid, for video player apps for your Mac. Any video player on this list will help you play a variety of different video types on your Mac, but for the best adaptability and all-around user experience, the free version of Elmedia Player is our top recommendation.

Mac OS X has a built-in media player. QuickTime Player is free and does a fairly good job when it comes to handling media in the formats preferred by Apple. However playing back a video or audio of non-native formats such as AVI, WMV with the help of QuickTime Player is not a straightforward task, so be prepared for a bit of extra work here. Searching, downloading and installing third party codecs or plug-ins to enable the app to playback the media requires quite a bit of your time, and the worst thing is that there is no guarantee it will actually work.
