On November 6, 2015, upon the release of Black Ops III, The Hollywood Reporter reported that Activision Blizzard launched a production studio called Activision Blizzard Studios and are planning a live action Call of Duty cinematic universe in 2019.[76] On February 16, 2018, it was announced that Stefano Sollima will direct the film. Days later, he told Metro UK that he is considering having both Tom Hardy and Chris Pine as the leads for the film.[77][78] In an interview with FilmSlash, Sollima stated that the film will be a real soldier movie, not a war movie.[79] On November 27, 2018, it was announced that Joe Robert Cole will be writing the sequel.[80] Filming on the first film was supposed to start filming in Spring 2019 for a 2020 or 2021 release.[81] In February 2020, Sollima revealed in an interview that the film is put on hold saying that it's not Activision's priority.[82]

Being a very obsolete weapon (even under the context of advanced, futuristic warfare, no pun intended), it can accept a few attachments, that being advanced rifling (despite being a smoothbore firearm), a stock (which is nonsensical, given that the firearm already has a stock), and a quickdraw grip, all of which do not affect the weapon's appearance whatsoever.

Call of Duty draws on a variety of sources for its storylines. Though it often depicts fictional characters and events, the developers will often look to real-world events and other depictions for inspiration. That includes a lot of war movies, and in the case of Modern Warfare, especially ones about contemporary events or ones that are in recent memory. These are some of the many films about modern warfare Call of Duty fans may want to watch.

Updated on August 28, 2022 by John Hitchcock: While there is a challenge to find more modern wars that could be related specifically to Modern Warfare, there are several other films worth mentioning when widening the scope of the article, which led to the addition of Apocalypse Now due to it being cited as a heavy influence on one of the game's characters. However, lacking any other Vietnam War movies that could be tied specifically to Modern Warfare it made more sense to include it as a special mention.

While the reboot does not show Black Hawk Down's influence as obviously as its predecessor, its impact can definitely be felt. The game loves to throw players into heavy fighting which will quickly call the intensity of the film to mind, and a lot of it even happens in a desert environment. In particular, the level "The Embassy" probably shows the most influence from the film. Aside from a similar setup, it also follows the same idea of a group of soldiers being hopelessly outnumbered by a militia whose numbers feel infinite.

According to a YouTuber who has already seen Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, the upcoming PS4, Xbox One, and PC game will make Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2's controversial "No Russian" level "look like a Pixar film" with its insane levels of realistic violence. As you may know, since Infinity Ward revealed the game, it's been talking up how gritty it is and how it truly reflects the horrors of modern warfare. But from the sounds of it, it's even more violent at times than Infinity Ward is pitching it as.

I actually have a few projects that are going to be announced and coming out this year. Most of the stuff I've been working on, including my graphic novels, has been developing original properties in the past couple of years. I have a book called Ascend with Image Comics and some other books, and we've already been doing film deals with those. So it was coincidental that I was working on Modern Warfare 2 when all of the Frost Road stuff happened. So it's been a fantastic year for us.
