When I started making booklets, I trimmed them with an Exacto knife. It worked, but sometimes it took me a few tries to get a nice, even edge. Then, back in December, I discovered my fabric rotary cutter slices through paper like butter.
In the past I had a printer that had the booklet format option that would print the document two pages at a time ordered in a way that folding the whole printout would produce a booklet, half the size of the paper which could be stapled in the middle.

I solved for my 4 pages booklet, putting the number of the pages to be printed in this order: 4,1,2,3.For a 8 pages booklet it would be 8,1,2,7,6,3,4,5. For a 16pages one... 16,1,2,15,14,3,4,13,12,5,6,11,10,5... and so on .... Not practical and immediate but Works.
I found this python-gtk script, pdfbooklet that takes a PDF, rearranges the pages to make a booklet, and saves that as a PDF. It has a number of options to automatically generate different types of booklets.

I have created LO sheets which when printed at home, is printed as a booklet. Now the printer I an sending it to, wants a PDF of the booklet. How do I create a PDF booklet in LO?
In my experience, I found it is is even easier if you Export as PDF normally. Then using a printing service like at Office Depot or Staples, just tell them you want this document as a booklet. Also, Adobe Acrobat Reader has that ability to print a PDF document as a booklet directly to a printer. You can also do this (as explained above) directly in LibreOffice. Just one tip: If using the above method, make sure your fonts are a bigger size in your document that you want to turn into a booklet. This is because when LibreOffice (or Adobe Acrobat) assembles the pages of your document into a booklet, it will effectively shrink the page to fit on one side in the booklet.

Hi all, I think I need some advice on the best way to create and print an A5 Booklet using my home printer (ideally from start to finish). I have searched the forums but have been unable to find any help on this topic. I have created a document (in A4 format, I believe? (.afpub file attached)), but when I come to print it, I am unable to get it to print in A5 Booklet format. I have tried all possible combinations in the print settings (my HP LaserJet4250dtn printer supports duplex printing) but no combination seems to produce the required result. I am not sure if I have created the document using the incorrect template, just missing something in the printer settings, or BOTH! Any advice or pointers/links would be greatly appreciated.
Hilltop, thanks for your comments. As you suggest, I changed my document setup page preset to "A5" and yes, that produces the same print output as my solution (just means that I need to resize all the content to fit the new A5 format - it has obviously been sized to fit an A4 document). I would assume that your suggestion is the correct way to produce an A5 document and my "solution" is incorrect (even though it does give me the required output). This is the type of information I was asking for when I created the post.

I produce for the church the monthly parish magazine - an A4 booklet. I produce the copy and send it to the printer as a Corel document. I also put it on the web site I manage as a PDF - see _feb.pdf for an example. I create the PDF by simply using "Print to PDF".

Because a Booklet must have a page-count that can be divided by 4. Why? Each sheet has 4 sides, even if you leave them blank, they will be physically there. You will have to go for 20 pages or 24. 22 leaves 2 empty. Which is what you are seeing in the final booklet.
PS: a few years ago before I met LaTeX, I used to create plain A5 document using word processor and imposed it using an acrobat plugin (I forgot the name). There were several options and settings for binding, including saddle stitch. Once it's done, there's an imposed PDF ready for print. It looks like bookletimposer's result above (landscape), but printed nicely without further tweaks.
Using my answer at Change location of increasing text length and adapting it to the current booklet problem, I create book.tex in a sequential way without regard to binding. Here is a sample 8 page book that prints its page number as the content of the page:
The problem is that pages 1,2,31,32 and 15,16,17,18 are colored. This means - the first and last SRA3 page from my booklet. I have printed this pages on my 570 color printer and I put them on tray 5 (bypass) of the bw printer. I want the printer to take only the first and last page from tray 5 and for the rest to use blank paper from tray 3.
