I can stream Netflix just fine when I play it using my Chrome browser. But, when I try to play Netflix using Safari (version 10.0), I get one or two frames of video, and then a black screen. I still have all of the controls and slider and I still get sound, but the video is just a black screen.
I just now tried it again using Safari, and got code S7363-1260-48444350 when trying to play a video. The code referred to an incompatible monitor. I tried again, and got the same issue as before, where I get a few frames of the video, and then the video goes black, but I can hear the audio and I still have control of the playback (e.g., play/pause, volume, etc.).
When I unplugged my external monitors and used only the laptop screen, the video played. So, I now know that the problem has something to do with my external monitors being connected to my laptop, even if I'm trying to play the video on my laptop screen.
Simple solution (os High Sierra) but Netflix have so far ignored my message! Forget all their solutions particularly concerning Silver Light, as that is no longer needed. This only began for me with Safari 11.0.1. I was able to connect using FireFox without issue so it had to be Safari settings.
Thanks, but I've already done an Internet search to find a solution to my problem. I've re-installed the latest version of Silverlight, and that hasn't helped. Also, Chrome works just fine with Netflix, which I think also uses Silverlight. I've also tried restarting the computer and the other typical non-specific solutions.
- I do get the display error thing (thunderbolt > VGA displays attached). Checked with develop tab if netflix works in safari 10 (don't see another version of safari in the list). However, if I select 'firefox: mac' and allow the silverlight plugin (that I just installed) then it works.
If the issue is the HTML5 player (since in older safari versions with silverlight, it does work), how do I force Netflix to use silverlight? It seems it always reverts back to HTML5, even if silverlight's installed.
How come videos won't play while using sidecar, no problem playing when using a normal second display? The videos won't play on my MacBook Pro display or the iPad Pro display. As soon as I disconnect the video is right there playing.
Netflix uses Digital Rights Management (DRM) to protect content. In a web browser, this is done using EME (Encrypted Media Extensions), and uses DRM products such as Google's "Widevine" (found in Chrome, Firefox, Brave, etc.), and other technologies.
When connecting an external display or other device, these DRM technologies require those devices to support something called High-bandwidth Digital Content Protection (HDCP), which is an anti-piracy mechanism. It ensures the external device is "safe" and is not a recording device being used to duplicate the video feed. Many modern external monitors, TVs, projectors, etc. establish HDCP through an HDMI cable connection, and everything "just works."
I believe Apple's Sidecar feature works differently. Instead of sending a typical display feed to the iPad, it is sending an HEVC/H.265 video feed using technology similar to FaceTime video streaming. This is a non-standard/proprietary implementation for attaching a secondary display. It likely does not support HDCP and thus would be seen as an unauthorized display and probably why Netflix video playback stops working. I suspect the same issue arises with most other popular video services.
I saw this same behavior using the app Duet. Chrome works (as it does now with Sidecar) but Safari nor Apple TV App. I am going to open a support ticket because as most think on this forum, you should be able to play video on a Sidecar device.
I do believe product teams read the forums, at least on occasion. There are some feedback mechanisms like Product Feedback and Developer Bug Reporting. My theory is still speculative & not 100% confirmed, but it seems to jive with other comments I've read. I don't know a ton about the inner-workings of HDCP, but I hope it's technically feasible to solve this.
I have the newest MacBook Pro and iPad Pro, sidecar works, but when I try and play a movie, either web based like Netflix, or in the Apple TV app there is only a black screen and sound until a disconnect sidecar. Same problem using wifi or usb c cable with the iPad Pro.
Hope you've found some good answers to that. I've been struggling since I use Helium for watching netflix while I'm doing my job with my MacBook Pro with two-thundervolt ports 2017. I started using sidecar, and found that expensive sort of **** wasn't working properly... so I decided to watch netflix in iPad Pro using PIP(Picture-in-Picture) while I connect my airpods with the ipad..
Hi! Netflix used to work great in Firefox on my Mac OS X 10.11.6 macbook. Now I've been getting an error message saying "Looks like your browser is no longer supported" when trying to play video on Netflix and it won't play. I noticed that it self-updated a couple times over the last few days but these updates did not solve the problem. I'm hoping that this problem can be fixed so that I can keep watching Netflix on Firefox, as I find Chrome and other browsers are very slow and laggy compared to Firefox. Thanks :)
Anyways I solved it. Apparently the info in "About Firefox" is wrong because it's saying that I have the most up-to-date version, and that is incorrect. I googled "Firefox 78" and it turns out that there's a newer version of Firefox available for my Mac, so I downloaded it from the Firefox website. In Firefox 78, Netflix is working and plays video just fine for me.
Seems like this situation could be improved though because Firefox shouldn't be saying that you have the most up-to-date version when you don't, especially when Firefox's support article on "How to update Firefox" tells users to trust the "About Firefox" section and go there to check for new updates. I'd strongly recommend the team look into fixing it so that it tells users "you have Firefox 77 and Firefox 78 is available."

Is it possible to run zwift on your apple tv 4k and do some picture in picture to watch an movie on netflix or youtube? I allready tried it, it worked but had no sound. Used my iphone to airplay youtube to my apple tv, then picture in picture to start zwift. It worked but I heard no sound of youtube.
Oh, and for iPhone 15 peoples, the existing two-years free applies. Meaning that on the whole, Apple has deferred this potential-payment-problem decision till 2025. These days, the feature is available in the following countries, for both iPhone 14 and iPhone 15 users.
The core difference with an app like RideWithGPS is that it also has sensor support (even Garmin Varia radar integration), as well as uploads to all the various 3rd party platforms like a head unit (whereas Google Maps will most definitely not upload to Strava).
Two Things:
1-I like the PeakDesign phone holder on the handle bars, good choice!
2-I wish Peloton would allow none Peloton bikes to connect to their system, specifically for their scenic rides. I like to do those rides from time-to-time, but I am not a fan of the bike itself as I prefer to ride my Cannondale on my Wahoo.
Most other communicators (EPIRB/PLB, 911 call on a cell phone) will pass through an emergency call without any other charges, so long as the device functions. I think where Garmin and others in the satellite device arena are making their money is non-emergency check-ins and tracking, as well as messaging, rather than on a cost per emergency call.
I doubt it will ever happen, but it would be interesting if NordicTrack finally feels enough pressure to add Netflix to its platform after years of users having to use all kinds of workarounds to get it working.
Hi Ray, on my peloton bike+ (UK based) I only see the Disney App in the Beta Entertainment function. Is there a way of getting access to more providers or is all pushed depending on your country etc? There is the netflix app hidden away in the Apps area but there is no ride data displayed in a sidebar so pretty useless. Anyone else had similar experiences?
