Howdy,

Due to the fact that there are no *new* members, lets put some pics on
the front page of the wiki to make BUNIX look fun. I have a whole bunch
of Barcamp pics, where we actually look sociable. If someone knows a
good way to present them on dokuwiki, then speak up. Perhaps we can just
display 3 in a row under the main title?

Two rows of thumbnail links should do it; three or four images across.

Small and non-intrusive.

So long as none of the images consist of a photo of Karsten in his underpants drying some dog-crap ridden trousers :p

I was thinking of ways to get more members and came to the conclusion of just printing out loads of posters (like the http bus) and just spamming them around the uni (in designated areas of course). Also perhaps on that noticeboard as you come into the university campus.

Also some talks that new members might enjoy could include using Xming on windows to forward X11 from decdev to a typical university windows machine so they can use Linux (ubuntu) at uni.

Also... personally I like the current time that bunix meetings start, but would closer to the school day attract more members? For those that have to catch a bus might not want to have to make multiple journeys or wait until 7 as an alternative?

I cracked equitrac so printing costs isnt much of an issue for the posters.

That was the conclusion I came to for Dorset LUG. But we've never done
anything about it. Possible places for posters we came up with were

Library.
School or University notice board.
Adult Education Centre.
Community hall notice boards.
Local computer shops.
Computing section of bookshops.

Dorset libraries charge 10p per colour laser A4 print-out so it isn't
much expense for folks to print out a few themselves and distribute even
if lots of colour ink is used.

Cheers,
Ralph.

True, but because we are geeks, we can nick posters from the internet and change the logo to bunix :)

If we can devise or steal something cool and recognizable, I am certain it will get use some punters.
