Yes, BUNIX still somewhat exists...
I am going to Bletchley Park[0] on the 11th of December with some
friends from UKC and around that area. Is anyone interested in making
this the December BUNIX meet?
"""
Bletchley Park, also known as Station X, is an estate located in the town of
Bletchley, in Buckinghamshire, England. During World War II, Bletchley Park was
the site of the United Kingdom's main decryption establishment, the Government
Code and Cypher School. Ciphers and codes of several Axis countries were
decrypted there, most importantly ciphers generated by the German Enigma and
Lorenz machines.
The high-level intelligence produced at Bletchley Park, codenamed Ultra,
provided crucial assistance to the Allied war effort. Harry Hinsley, a Bletchley
veteran and the official historian of British Intelligence in World War II, has
said that Ultra shortened the war "by not less than two years and probably by
four years"; moreover, in the absence of Ultra, it is uncertain how the war
would have ended.
Bletchley Park is now a museum run by the Bletchley Park Trust and is open to
the public. The main manor house is also available for functions and is licensed
for ceremonies. Part of the fees for hiring the facilities go to the Trust to
maintain the museum. Since 1967, Bletchley has been part of Milton Keynes.

I figure that if we approach them as a UNIX user group (tm), we could
get a tour of the history of computing feature they now have there
(complete with PDP-11s etc).
Tickets are about 8GBP and last a year. There is a restaurant there and some
nearby geocaches, so there is plenty to do.
Anyone even remotely interested in computers should make the effort to
come along, it is a truly awesome place. All who can make it say "ack"
and if there is enough interest we can start arranging car shares etc.

Well up for it.
Would be interested in helping someone pay their fuel bill if Swindon
isn't too far out of your way.

I'm a bit confused about Diccon land - top posting is A'OK and Christmas
appears to be the 12th of December.
So when do I get an invite to join you?

Sweet! I will be down to bmth at some stage to play with that ;P
But what are you running on it? Surely your are not playing the Oracle game?
Have just been informed a Client/Friends Christmas Dinner is on the
11th but I think Bletchley Park is more memorable and only happening
this year :)
(ps there you go, no top, no bottom, just me!)

Does this screw over our plans?

tl;dr - the place is going to be swarming with people and especially
shitty little kiddies.
Personally I'd still like to see the place and would put up with such a
nuisance.
However - the big downside IMHO would be the lack of availability of staff
to give us a guide.
I'm going to suggest the Saturday 4th as an alternative date, going the
next weekend pushes us closer to Christmas.
So we need a yay or nay on sticking with the 11th, or moving to the 4th.

As far as I can see I should be able to make it.
I'm still not driving and West Sussex based now. Looks like I'm hopping on a train for part/most of the journey.

OK, so we have moved the date of bletchley park to the 15th of Jan 2011.
Diccon, for you that is both Easter, Shrove Tuesday and the crazy world
of Arthur Brown.
Plenty of notice, so you can all come along ;)
