I'm writing from WAMS - Women of
Australian Motor Sport, and we've been advised of a Karting
opportunity for young females. There is a very short window
open for applications, so we are contacting as many karting
clubs as possible in the hope you can forward this to your
members as quickly as possible.
The FIA Women in Motorsport
Commission is pleased to announce the renewal of our
partnership with the CIK-FIA, aiming at designating one
young female driver, aged from 13 to 15, to be granted a
kart, out of the 51 allocated for 2012, in this year’s
edition of the CIK-FIA Karting Academy Trophy.
This Trophy is a Competition in
which the equipment will be identical for everyone
(Parolin‐FIM‐Dunlop), allocated by drawing lots and
placed at the disposal of the participants free
of charge.
While being a genuine competition
based on the usual format of international Karting
events (free practice, timed practice, qualifying heats
and two finals), the Trophy will be backed by an
educational programme for the drivers. This pedagogical
programme will address topics relating to safety, the
code of driving conduct on circuits, the anti‐doping
code, the
patrimony of Karting, etc.This
is the second year of an ambitious project for the FIA
WMC (Women in Motorsport Commission). Only
one candidature per country may be accepted and
globally, 6 candidates will be selected to take part
in a qualifying session on 2 June in Italy.
Requirement is that they are born
1997-1999.
Last year, Caitlin Wood from NSW
was selected and attended the event, and whilst she wasn't
the ultimate winner, has told of the amazing opportunity
and both personal and karting improvements she has made
since.
I'm hoping you can send this out to
your members, or forward to those you think may be
suitable?
I hope this helps with questions
you may have - but don't hesitate to contact me if you
need any further information.
