Hello Fruitnuts,

Hope someone here can ID peartrees.

I ordered a pear 'fruit cocktail', supposedly dwarf tree that was to create 4 kinds of pears thruout the season.  YUm!   However, I think I got a crabapple instead, as there are branchlet thorns and well, I think it just looks like a crabapple tree.  The 'dwarf' didn't work out either, as its 16 ft. tall.  Any insight much appreciated since I'll cut it down if crabapple and try another pear. . . preferably hard.

Thanks and fruit-nutty blessings,

Laurie Fisher

Hi Laurie, that picture looks very much like a pear tree to me. Sorry it’s a bigger than you’d like. Maybe it was a “semidwarf” and not a full dwarf. I don’t often see a full dwarfing pear- there’s dwarf, semidwarf, and full size as far as the lingo goes….

I am no expert, but this sure looks like a pear to me.  Also, my experience with dwarves and grafts is that they can be, um, good lessons in non-attachment.

Perhaps embrace the uncertainty and see what happens in a few years.  You can always graft on what you want it to produce later.
