Join us for learning and community engagement at the Dr. George Washington Carver Edible Park in the East End Valley Street Legacy Neighborhood!
Event 1: Fruit Tree Pruning Workshop & Workday
On Saturday, February 10, from 11 am to 2 pm, local ethnobotanist Marc Williams and Bountiful Cities Staff member Kelly Applegate will guide you in pruning fruit trees in the urban food forest. The location is 30 George Washington Carver Avenue, Asheville, with parking available at Stephens Lee Recreation Center. The day includes a park tour, a brief history overview, and hands-on activities focused on pruning and managing fruit trees. NC Extension Master Gardeners will provide soil test kits, publications, and examples of pruning tools. Bring gloves, water, and yourself! Snacks provided. Additional tools are welcome.
Event 2: Community Workday
On Friday, February 16, from 2:30 pm to 5:30 pm, join us for a recurring community workday every 3rd Friday of the month (weather permitting). The location is 30 George Washington Carver Avenue, Asheville, with parking available at Stephens Lee Recreation Center. Guided by Kelly Applegate, this event involves mulching, tree and shrub pruning, trash pickup, invasive clearing, and seasonal planting. Tools and hand sanitizer are provided, and your contributions of gloves, loppers, pruners, or weeding tools are appreciated. Masks are optional.
