Dear Friends and Colleagues:

The Nigerien artist who has produced these beautiful batiks is Adamou ISSOUFOU. He is shown with some of his work in the attached photographs that were provided by Yazi Dogo recently.

Adamaou ISSOUFOU was born in Niamey 1984, and he went through an apprenticeship in batik design and fabrication at the National Museum in Niamey from 1999 to 2004. He was the student of Tahirou Adamou, Batik artist.

Mother Tongue Editions announces the sale of Touareg Medallion Batiks for the purpose of fundraising in support of Nigerien artists and artisans.

Each batik depicts the entire 21-medallion inventory representing the major Touareg towns of Niger, including: Abalak, Agadez, Aïr, Bagzan, Bartchakea, Bilma, Crip-crip,  Iferouane, In-Abangaret, In-Gall, In-Wagar, Karaga, Madaoua, Tachmert, Tahoua, Takadend, Thimou Menene, Tchintabaradene, Tilya, Timia, and Zinder. The batiks were produced by artists from the Musée Nationale in Niamey. There are approximately 20 of the batiks remaining. 2 of them do not have any other illustration (one red and one blue), all the rest are accompanied by an illustration in the center as you see in the attached examples. The photographs that I am able to provide you with do not do them justice, and are simply meant to give you an idea of what the batiks look like.

Each batik measures approximately 33"x48". The batiks are being sold by Mother Tongue Editions for $75 each, US and Canada postage included. Checks should be made payable to Mother Tongue Editions and mailed to: Mother Tongue Editions
