Harry, sorry for the delay. Your email got caught in moderation. I've updated the zoom demo to work with my latest code.

This isn't really meant to be a ready-to-use component, but simply a demonstration of the functionality in my zoom classes.

DragZoomBehavior is a class I've used on many projects. For the most flexibility, this is where you should start. It acts on a target that must implement an interface, IZoomable.  The ZoomableContent class implements this interface for simple display objects. The ZoomPanel just ties this all together. If the zoom panel content is IZoomable, it is attached directly, otherwise, it is managed by ZoomableContent.

Regarding mask size, check out the padding property of ZoomPanel (from Panel class). Then, just call setSize on the panel to size it however you want. This demo is set to scale 100% of stage size.

As for buttons, this is just the default programmatic skin of my Button class. You can make your own buttons in Flash however you want. Check out the button demos for more info on skinning.

Also, I updated ZoomableContent to support instance of my Image class which can also act as a SWF or display object loader.

Good luck.

Thanks for this excellent library!
For my students I want to make a zoomable book page (swf file), but I
need to adjust the height and the width of the mask. I am working with
the ZoomDemo_01.as in the example directory (where a jpg is loaded).
Although loading a swf gives a compiler error, it seems to work.

How can I change the default setting for the width and height
parameter of the mask?
I also wish to make the buttons more transparent. How can I do that?
