Well if you do enough for the two of you, then I'm screwed. I guess I do
enough drinking for the whole LUG. Well actually thinking about it now
Ryan can pound down quite a few. I don't think I can beat him because he
has the drinking power only an irish man could have.

Hey Claude... you know that Christ Jesus was quite fond of the booze, right??  And it's also virtually impossible to get laid without alcohol (at least for me)...

So I'd really like to hear this price for "frivolity".  Saying that you won't even entertain the thought of entering a place of business merely on the basis that they serve alcohol is pretty frivolous if you ask me...  Getting laid > Being a prude.  The former _is_ the reason you were created.  Pressing your prudish mindset on every other person is nothing but frivolous.

But yea, as you were...

There is no evidence that Jesus evr drank an alcohol beverage. Many have argued this point for years, so you are welcome to look into the yen and yang of it. No person should  drink, unless for medicinal purposes, and that is over now that modern medicine has developed substitutes.
Since you alluded to scripture and our Lord Jesus Christ, I will give you what the Bible says concerning fermented drink.
.....Pro 20:1  Wine is a mocker, strong drink is raging: and whosoever is deceived thereby is not wise.
.......Pro 23:31  Look not thou upon the wine when it is red, when it giveth his colour in the cup, when it moveth itself aright.

MOVETH refers to fermentation, grape juice was commonly accepted as a drink.

Less you think I have become a lonely voice crying in the wilderness, look at this wonderful study by learned and great men of our age. here is the link.
http://lavistachurchofchrist.org/LVSermons/DrinkingInTheNewTestament.htm

because the above article speaks at length on the
subject I will not burden you further with my opinions.
I will advise you as a fellow sinner looking for
God's coming that it would not be wise to appear
drunken or reveling at the Lords coming.
Gal 5:21 Envyings, murders, drunkenness, revellings,
and such like: of the which I tell you before,
as I have also told you in time past, that they which
do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God.
Gal 5:22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace,
 longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith,
1Pe 4:3 For the time past of our life may suffice us to
have wrought the will of the Gentiles, when we
walked in lasciviousness, lusts, excess of wine,
revellings, banquetings, and abominable idolatries:
1Pe 4:4 Wherein they think it strange that ye run not
with them to the same excess of riot, speaking evil
of you:
1Pe 4:5 Who shall give account to him that is ready
to judge the quick and the dead.

Ya know, Claude...

There actually *is* evidence that Jesus "ever drank an alcoholic beverage" inside scripture...
http://answers.google.com/answers/threadview/id/159853.html

Or, since you're quoting OT to say what the Bible says about fermented drink, I'm assuming you believe that fermentation is an evil process.  Perhaps you could give me your analysis of why he would compare heaven to the fermentation process??  Fermentation is GOOD.

Or perhaps you'd prefer the angle that, at a minimum, Jesus would have entered that bar to befriend sinners...

... Now, if you don't mind... I have a frozen Milwaukee's Best that I just stumbled across and will be moderately appreciating, as you should with ALL of God's creations, including marijuana.  :)

And
this
too...

A couple beers might actually be good for you for an incredibly WIDE variety of reasons.
A few beers might actually just be a downright appropriate thing when you actually have something to celebrate... a new life [of any kind], for example.
Several beers IS bad, sure... but so is anything that's excessive.

If we are creatures of habit... we are not to stop living, but to learn self-control and, more importantly, how to live with those that know nothing of it.
Accept that moderation is the key and do what you TRULY believe to be right.

Point blank on the Jesus bit, tho...

If Jesus didn't want his peeps drinking... he wouldn't have provided the means as just a 13 year old boy at the Wedding in Cana.  OORRR would he?

I will not respond as quickly as you think fit. For some reason your emails are going in my spam box. Please dont bother sending me addy's that have no referrence to Bible truth. I'm sure you can find some web sites touting crack cocain, and crystal meth as good things as well.
I am not interested in what the world view is of what the Bible calls sin.

Rom 12:2  And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.
1Co 1:18  For the preaching of the cross is to them that perish foolishness; but unto us which are saved it is the power of God.
1Co 1:19  For it is written, I will destroy the wisdom of the wise, and will bring to nothing the understanding of the prudent.
1Co 1:20  Where is the wise? where is the scribe? where is the disputer of this world? hath not God made foolish the wisdom of this world?
1Co 1:21  For after that in the wisdom of God the world by wisdom knew not God, it pleased God by the foolishness of preaching to save them that believe.
1Co 1:22  For the Jews require a sign, and the Greeks seek after wisdom:
1Co 1:23  But we preach Christ crucified, unto the Jews a stumblingblock, and unto the Greeks foolishness;
1Co 1:24  But unto them which are called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God, and the wisdom of God.
1Co 1:25  Because the foolishness of God is wiser than men; and the weakness of God is stronger than men.
1Co 1:26  For ye see your calling, brethren, how that not many wise men after the flesh, not many mighty, not many noble, are called:
1Co 1:27  But God hath chosen the foolish things of the world to confound the wise; and God hath chosen the weak things of the world to confound the things which are mighty;

You're pretty sure that you CAN... and I'm pretty sure that you CAN'T find such a website that links to a dozen references of medical studies on positive effects of said drugs.

And let's continue with that same passage, starting off where you left off. . . but with the New American Bible translation...

26 10 Consider your own calling, brothers. Not many of you were wise by human standards, not many were powerful, not many were of noble birth.
27 Rather, God chose the foolish of the world to shame the wise, and God chose the weak of the world to shame the strong,
28 and God chose the lowly and despised of the world, those who count for nothing, to reduce to nothing those who are something,
29 so that no human being might boast 11 before God.
30 It is due to him that you are in Christ Jesus, who became for us wisdom from God, as well as righteousness, sanctification, and redemption,
31 so that, as it is written, "Whoever boasts, should boast in the Lord."

.... I am who you consider to be foolish, and you are who you consider to be wise... and I _am_ shaming you.  :-P

Remember, WWJD?  He would get his all his parents' friends buzzing at a wedding.  Losing consciousness while excessively drinking is a sign of losing self-control and any bit of moderation you never had... so certainly, you DO have the right to choose what you yourself will consume.  But to avoid the house of sinners isn't very Christ-like.

... And BTW... Jesus even said himself that he is not wholly good, like the Creator...

Mark 10
======
17 As he was setting out on a journey, a man ran up, knelt down before him, and asked him, "Good teacher, what must I do to inherit eternal life?"
18 Jesus answered him, "Why do you call me good? 3 No one is good but God alone.

... This also jives with an understanding of his reference here to Psalms 82, when he quotes "I said, 'You are gods.'" ...

John 10
======
14 I am the good shepherd, and I know mine and mine know me,
15 just as the Father knows me and I know the Father; and I will lay down my life for the sheep.
16 I have other sheep 7 that do not belong to this fold. These also I must lead, and they will hear my voice, and there will be one flock, one shepherd.
17 This is why the Father loves me, because I lay down my life in order to take it up again.
18 No one takes it from me, but I lay it down on my own. I have power to lay it down, and power to take it up again. 8 This command I have received from my Father."
19 Again there was a division among the Jews because of these words.
20 Many of them said, "He is possessed and out of his mind; why listen to him?"
21 Others said, "These are not the words of one possessed; surely a demon cannot open the eyes of the blind, can he?"
22 The feast of the Dedication 9 was then taking place in Jerusalem. It was winter.
23 10 And Jesus walked about in the temple area on the Portico of Solomon.
24 So the Jews gathered around him and said to him, "How long are you going to keep us in suspense? 11 If you are the Messiah, tell us plainly."
25 Jesus answered them, "I told you 12 and you do not believe. The works I do in my Father's name testify to me.
26 But you do not believe, because you are not among my sheep.
27 My sheep hear my voice; I know them, and they follow me.
28 I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish. No one can take them out of my hand.
29 My Father, who has given them to me, is greater than all, 13 and no one can take them out of the Father's hand.
30 14 The Father and I are one."
31 The Jews again picked up rocks to stone him.
32 Jesus answered them, "I have shown you many good works from my Father. For which of these are you trying to stone me?"
33 The Jews answered him, "We are not stoning you for a good work but for blasphemy. You, a man, are making yourself God."
** 34 15 Jesus answered them, "Is it not written in your law, 'I said, "You are gods"'? **
35 If it calls them gods to whom the word of God came, and scripture cannot be set aside,
36 can you say that the one whom the Father has consecrated 16 and sent into the world blasphemes because I said, 'I am the Son of God'?

Here's Psalms 82 in context...
======
1 A psalm of Asaph. 1 God rises in the divine council, gives judgment in the midst of the gods.
2 "How long will you judge unjustly and favor the cause of the wicked? Selah
3 Defend the lowly and fatherless; render justice to the afflicted and needy.
4 Rescue the lowly and poor; deliver them from the hand of the wicked."
2 The gods neither know nor understand, wandering about in darkness, and all the world's foundations shake.
** 6 3 I declare: "Gods though you be, offspring of the Most High all of you, **
7 Yet like any mortal you shall die; like any prince you shall fall."
4 Arise, O God, judge the earth, for yours are all the nations.

... So Jesus' point in both Mark 10 and John 10 is that (A) we're all children of God, like he, and (B) you can use scripture to prove anything.  Contrary to what you may believe, the Bible is full of inconsistencies and contradictions that can be found with a quick Google search.  If the book were infallible, then sure we could take it as authority over God, claiming that eating red meat _is_ a sin... and so is any food or drink created thru the fermentation process. Luckily, Jesus was trying to change the Law back then to become more reasonable with the times.  If you go toward the source, your creator... you should be asking him to lead you not into temptation, but to deliver you and your fellow man from evil.

Good works > Good faith
God > Jesus > Bible

Peace

P.S. - I'd still like to see that website that uses that links to a dozen medical studies, which claim to see various positives of crack, crank, heroine, etc..

You have improved your situation by bringing back Some type of Bible language. I will caution you that not all Bibles are the same, and not all translations are Kosher with God's word. There are some who are willing to find a "translation' that justifies homosexuality. But clearly 2000 years of history tell us tha it is an abomination to God. New age religion and some who claim to be Christian have translated away God's commandments concernng this lifestyle. The Simple truth of the matter is God said. "My sheep hear my voice, and they follow me" You either hear the voice of God and obey, or you resist by finding another wisdom that justifies the worlds  immorality. Satan himself in the garden of eden took God's word, changed it. Giving Eve permission to eat forbidden fruit. God told her not to do it, but devil said "you shall not surely die" She was willing to believe a lie and be dammed, than to believe, trust, obey the Word of God. There are some Paul said, that justify themselves by themselves for themselves. From Such he said turn away. Do you look for an answer that justifies your ways, when the spirit of God has spoken to you and declares you are doing wrong/ If so you are denying the convicting power of God's will for you. He would You, and I become faithful believers in his love and his mercy. A mercy that teaches us that we are to be examples of the faith. First to christian brothers, secondly to a lost and dying world. So God has said "Come out from among them and be ye seperate sayeth the Lord. Christians have become a seperate people, a called out generation, a royal priesthood. Christians are found, not running riot with the world as in the days of their rebellion to God, but are kind, gentle, making no offence, and causing no other person to offend in the liberty that God has given us.Paul says that even though in some things we might have our liberty He will not "eat", nor "drink" nor do any thing to cause his weaker brother to offend, or be offended before God. If you are a christian your calling is the higher standard of an example, a light to unbelievers, a witness to the goodness and the power of God in us to live a peaceful and productive life. Stay away from such places, if you are a christian, that might cause others by watching your example, to become alcoholics, fornicators, gamblers, liars, and blasphemers of God. It is not just your responsibility, if you are a christian, to watch for your own soul, but to be concerned about the soul of others who might be watching you.

... and that's why I use Ubuntu.

"I am what I am because of who we all are."

AAAAAAMMMMMMMMMEEEEEENNNNNNNNNN.

And as a matter of fact, the only Christian religion I can get down with is parts of Christian Science, where they merely focus on the Spirit of everything, denouncing the physical world altogether.  And they refer to Jesus Christ as Christ Jesus, because the divine part should clearly take precedence... and since the spiritual world is all that matters, there's no point in even worrying about if Jesus really existed or not (which is a problem for me)!!  The only thing that matters is the spiritual you connecting with the spiritual Source of life.  Pretty respectable if you ask me.... as well as Theosophy, Taoism, and even Deism from time to time.

Some Christians _do_ revert to minimalism, similar to the Pharisees that he was trying to correct... but turning sinners to saints is the real duty belonging to every child of God.  Perhaps you should ponder why Irish priests go to bars so frequently.  That's where they do their best fishin'!  ;-)  You remind me a lot of a priest.  What denomination do you consider yourself, anyway?

any mailing list that allows robert westley mcgrew to post, is
inherently wrong, unless the mailing list is pro Saints.
