What wireless cards, video cards are compatible with Linux?
How difficult, after my Linux distro doesn,t recognize my compatible card, is it to make Linux aware of the card?
I'm not mentioning printers, dvd burners, card readers, video camera's, microphones, to keep the post answer consise.

The best way to find out is to just boot off a Ubuntu Desktop CD in the live CD "try it" mode.  If everything works, great.

If something doesn't work, it's usually more of a pain to get it working than it's worth (if it's even supported at all).

There are web scripts that you can put your cards into the list on some links and they will tell you if your wireless or video card is compatible or not, for example here is one for wireless: http://linux-wless.passys.nl/
